My PC won't turn off.

The title says it all really. My PC won't turn off. But let me delve a little deeper into the situation.

 

When I go to start > shutdown. My screens go off instantly (which is normal because I have a SSD and shutdown is speedy quick).

However, my tower itself does not turn off. The LED lights from my CPU cooler and my front facing 200mm fan stay on, my peripherals all stay on, etc.

Now this is a very recent problem. So let me tell you what I have done in the past 2 days.

 

1. My front facing fan (which was stock) was making noise. So, I decided it was probably time to replace the fan. This is not a hard task to do, so I ordered a new fan that I made sure was compatible and switched them out. The original fan was the stock 200mm fan that comes with the Cooler Master HAF 922 case. I replaced it with a Megaflow 200 Blue LED fan. The install seemed quite straight forward I unplugged one power cable from the old fan and plugged in the new power cable. The fan turned on without a hitch and works great.

 

2. I switched the LED color of my CPU cooler from red to blue (to match my new fan LED). This seems like red herring, but I guess it can't hurt to add it in.

 

So it would lead me to believe that something with the fan is keeping my computer from shutting down. But after hours of looking through the forums I have not found any similar problems. If you can give me any suggestions or ways to see what is keeping my computer from shutting down properly. Keep in mind if I hold down the power button, turn off the PSU, etc. my PC DOES turn off. It just will not turn off properly.

Very strange. I don't have too many suggestions but you should try clearing the CMOS.

So, I tried putting my PC into hibernate to see if that worked. My computer ran high for about 5 seconds, with the dBAs and RPMs seemingly going higher and then it turned off, and stayed off. Not sure if this is just a cookie-cutter error message from Windows 8, but that is what showed up.

The displays stay off indefinitely. I went to the bathroom and came back and they were still off but the tower was still on.

Try turn off fast boot. This was a temporary solution when my Gigabyte 390 caused me the exact same problem.

Tried this and then turned off the computer.

 

However, it turned off (after the components sounded like they were revving up) BUT it turned back on without me even pressing the power button. And the same error message appeared on the desktop once it loaded up. *see previous post*

 

Not sure if this is progress or not.

Search for a fast boot option in your BIOS too.

Looked in my BIOS as well. My fast boot is turned off. Once I left the BIOS and restarted my PC I reciviced a BSOD error message reading DPC_Watchdog_Violation. Not sure if this is related to my problem with my PC not turning off.

Best bet is let windows support help you out.

Sounds like a file is corrupted or something... Most likely in the bios.

Remove your motherboard's battery. Keep it out for at least a minute, and place it back in. Then see if that fixes it.

In your BIOS settings, under Power Options, there should be something to configure what happens after a power outage.

If it's configured to power up the pc, try to configure it to do nothing.

 

I had a similar issue with a server board and I think that was the problem.

I checked this, but my BIOS was setup to soft-off which means it stays off after the power outage. So no luck there.
