Carbon fibre vs aluminium monopod?

Gershy13

Hey guys!

I'm looking to buy a monopod... And found this koolehaoda one from Amazon.. It has decent reviews... And fits in my price range... I will probably replace the feet tho, because they don't look very stable... But first I will try it.

But I realised, that there is a carbon fibre version, and an aluminium one. According to Amazon, the weight is the same, but I don't believe that... And have contacted the seller... Anyways, which one should I get? They are the same price. Linked below.

If Amazon says their weights are the same, the carbon fiber one could possibly just be a carbon fiber casing or other type of falseness.

"M. Aronnax." replied the Canadian, "your arguments are rotten at the foundation. You speak in the future, 'We shall be there! we shall be here!' I speak in the present, 'We are here, and we must profit by it.'"

I am familiar with this design of monopods, having the Manfrotto version, and the description on Amazon is not fully accurate.  For a monopod of this type the majority of the weight is in the foot and joint connectors.  There is only a small difference in weight between the aluminum and carbon version that whoever put up the description on Amazon may not have done so accurately.  Of course there is also the chance that the manufacturer may be using low quality carbon fibre so has to make the monopod sections thicker which adds more weight.

Looking at the images, this version seems to let you remove the triple feet and use a single rubber piece instead if you prefer.  However I can assure you that the triple feet will allow for smoother rotation if you want to do some panning motion with your camera.

But while I am familiar with the design, I cannot say anything about the build quality as I have zero experience with this brand.  I would read the reviews on Amazon and if any exists on other websites.

The carbon fibre one doesn't have any... But the aluminium one does, its just listed differently, also there are some YouTube reviews... The aluminium one is £29.99 vs 39.99 for the "carbon fibre"

I think just to be on the safe side, I'll get the aluminium with reviews.... It's also cheaper... Other than looking nice the carbon fibre won't do much. And my tripod is aluminium and looks good, so both of them will match... (Other than that pointless blue)...
