Well, I'm having some troubles with Skyrim. Again. My problem: whenever I try to enter the Sleeping Giant Inn in Riverwood, my game gives me an infinite loading screen. After hours of trying to figure it out, I gave up and came here.

I'm using mods, and I've had no problems running any of them together. The strange part is, I was able to enter the inn fine... With all the same mods installed. In other words, I've changed absolutely nothing.

And now there's another problem, just five minutes ago, I was entering people's homes in the game(in Riverwood, I haven't tried anywhere else yet.) fine. But now, it gives me an infinite loading screen like the inn.

notes:
I'd like not to uninstall Skyrim. I have bad internet, and it'd take me at least all day and night.

I'd like not to start over. I'm a pretty decent ways in, and I have a lot of excellent gear and whatnot and I really don't want to start over.

I've deleted the Skyrim.ini and Skyrimprefs. files. Skyrim created new ones, and nothing changed.

I've uninstalled all my mods, and booted skyrim, but it crashes to desktop at the main menu screen.

I reinstalled all my mods. Went back to square 1.

Something similar has happened before. It was when I tried entering any building(and sometimes when I tried to leave) In Whiterun. I had uninstalled my mods one at a time, testing skyrim each time to find the problem. Couldn't find it. In the end, I uninstalled all my mods reinstalled them and it worked like a charm. I tried that again. Nothing happened.

My brain feels like its about ready to crawl out of my skull and my eyes want to implode. Help. Please. (The skyrim issues, I can see a doctor for the last one)

Problem is that it can be so many different things. All from corrupted save file to various issues with mods.... or even a bugged quest.

If it's mod related infinite loading screens are usually caused by graphical mods, such as heavy textures or LOD mods/tweaks. Lighting mods can also cause problems, especially with indoor locations.

I've personally had the unofficial patch cause this problem for me in Whiterun once.

If you're stuck you can also try using the COC command to warp somewhere else. Warping around can clear some buffer issues with areas, so that the area that didn't work is fine the next time you get there. Can go to the developers room for example, "coc qasmoke". Then coc back to somewhere else later.

Another method that can solve this issue if it's caused by some corrupted cache, bugged NPC or whatever is to wait in game for 31 days so that everything gets reset (spawns, loot, general game scripts etc). Combo method is coc to the developers room, wait there until all of skyrim has reset, then coc back.

Thanks, I'll try that. How long is 31 days in real time?

I've had problems like this with skyrim mods before, and yeah it can make you want to throw your computer out the window. What helped me when I came across problems like this is I went and researched my problem with my mods individually, for instance google search "Skyrim Stargate infinite loading screen". It can take a while but odds are if its a problem with a mod, then somebody else has or is having this problem and is posting somewhere also on the internet.

Does this only occur in one of your saves? Can you go back to a previous save and not have this problem?

Also, you should post a list of your Skyrim mods to see if anyone has any experience with the mods.

I only CTD when I keep the game paused for more than 4 minutes, but that happened when I was running Vanilla skyrim too. I get infinite loading screens commonly.

You got infinite loading screens commonly on vanillas screens prior to adding your mods, or was this something that only started occurring on vanilla after mods were added? Yeah most of those are pretty popular mods, you shouldn't have much of a problem finding troubleshoots for those them.

Try going into steam, right-click on skyrim then go to properties, somewhere in there is an option called verify game cache, if will redownload any corrupt files. Also make sure that you don't have MSI afterburner open, it causes my nodded skyrim to freak out.

I'd rather not do that, I've done TES5EDIT and it would be a pain to do it again.

Only after modding out skyrim.

Okay then verifying your game cache most likely wouldn't fix the problem, unless you want to go back to playing vanilla skyrim. Im not saying that verifying your game cache makes you play in vanilla skyrim, I've done it a couple of times with mods, rather it would only fix issues in vanilla skyrim and not issues with your mods. I don't know what TES5EDIT is so I don't know that verifying the cache wouldn't affect you. Was there a certain mod that you installed that this started occurring afterwards? That's where I'd start looking.

You see, I have no idea really. It worked fine just a few days ago, with this exact same set of mods, no more, no less.

Something similar happened a while back, but it resolved itself somehow. I had less mods then though.

I'm going to see if unactivating and reactivating my mods will do anything.

I FIGURED IT OUT!! It was the Physical Rain mod, I have no Idea what it was doing (it wasn't even working correctly) But whatever it did, it gave me the infinite loading screen. I now have a new problem, every time I try to load a save in game, I get a CTD.

Damn I had this problem and I can't remember how I fixed it, if I remember I'll tell you. Does it happen if you quicksave (F5) or when you go menu-->save or both?

LAWL yeah that sounds about right, I would tell the physical rain mod person about what it did to you so that they can work on fixing it if they already don't know. I had that problem too, usually when it does that, there is an error in the code when loading the game and thats why you get the CTD. I don't know if you had to change the code for any of your mods but apparantly something in the code is messed up. You might want to verify the game cache :/

You really just got to try to mess around with other saves, the mod load order, little stuff like that. I'm always having glitches and freezes with my skyrim. I got over 70 mods, but I still seem to work around them somehow most times.

What code? maybe I can fix it manually. I'd really prefer not to verify the game cache because it'd just ruin everything I did with TES5EDIT. I basically cleaned up the files, and verifying the game cache would just redownload what I fixed. (Because steam is stupid af)

If it doesnt DTC when you aren't running your mods then i wouldn't verify the cache, instead I would take off my mods and then re-download and install them. But if it does then there is something wrong in vanilla and verifying the cache would be the easiest way to solve it. If you remember the code you changed, you could go find it and save it on notepad. Else you're gonna have to find the specific code change you need on the internet, for your problem, unless you are a skyrim dev.

change a file name, change some of the files that open into word pad, or something else by hand, I've read solutions where some people do it, its crazy right? But yeah probably gonna have to end up doing something like that if you don't try verifying the cache, sorry that I can't be of anymore help. I've had this problem before and I fixed it (although I can't remember exactly how) which means that you can too. Goodluck!!

I've got it. I had to reinstall the Physical Rain and snow mod, but in-game, it tells me its uninstalled constantly. But, I can save, and enter the inn and other buildings, so you know what? Close enough.
