Hi,

I'm seeing something weird when I am trying to overclock my i5 3570K on Asrock z77 Pro4-M
I am using a Coolermaster Hyper 101i running Push-Pull with a mild overclock of 4Ghz, i get close to 90C with Prime and Boinc.

My problem is the voltage offset option. I can't find something that will allow me to set a constant "Vcore" or something similar. I want to get my voltage down from 1.291v which is a -.075 offset, however if I drop the offset any more, it will crash when the Speedstep drops to .941v.

I'm not entirely sure what I should do to lower temps? I've been suggested to turn off Speedstep, but I really like the idle power and temperature lowering.

Thank you Linustech forums.

and stress test report back with temps at stock settings after 30 minutes

what are your ambient temps?

your cpu cooler is below average and only slightly better than stock.

try to reseat your cooler with new thermal interface material

I'll try that when my thermal paste gets back to me.

Loaded optimized results

Stock settings max 81c Delta ~60c

Ambient is 20c at night, 35-37c during the day in my room

CPU cooler was reseated and i replaced the stock Cooler Master paste with some Arctic MX-4, saw ~5C drop, old paste had air pockets and was a crap job.

Does anyone have any suggestions? I'd really appreciate some advice from someone a lot more adept with Asrock overclocking.

your temps are hot even at stock when ambients are at 20c

you dont have much room to overclock

-upgrade your cooler

- find a cooler computing environment ( 37-38c during the day is hot man hot!)

- consider deliding ( i dont recommend this )

I REALLY Appreciate the response. i was feeling lonely. :P

The problem with this board is the stock auto voltage is set high. I am not sure how accurate CPUz or HWinfo is, but it says 1.128 at max usage, at 80c.

The room itself is likely over 100f, which is over 37c. Yes, it's toasty. I don't have AC just a fan.

The cooler is upgraded and honestly it is much better than teh stock one .it has two 6mm heat pipes, and the case has pretty great air flow. It's small and it's ducted one 80mm in, two open 60mm vents in the back(fanless) and a 120mm fan exhaust pulling the air from the case roof.

I know it's tight, and i know overclocking is not intelligent, I wasn't wanting much, anyways.

This is my Boinc/Gaming/Streaming computer and unfortunately I don't have AC. I live in southern california, today had a high at 100f/37.7C. Not much I can do about it, if I did have AC I wouldn't be having problems :)

Also i've read articles on Deliding and I'm not going to try that. People say they get from 5-10c, some even more if they're overclocking massively, I don't intend to ever go over 4.2. No real need for the excess strain. If I had my way, I'd put a H80i in the 120mm hole in the roof and call it a day.

im sorry bro that cooler is not much better than stock even in push pull. save your money and buy a noctua nhd-14 or 240mm aio cooler. even if it takes a while to save.

i think you need to drop down to 3.9GHz since you cannot mantain stable voltages for 4.0ghz

I am currently at stock clocks stock voltage and at 80c. My room is just that hot. I reseated the heatsink with some MX4. It's better than the 93c i was gettign with stock. It is much better than the stock, but much better than terrible isn't that great!

Unfortunately an NHD-14 is much, much too large for my case, and this computer is specifically designed for this scale. If I wanted it easy, I'd grab a AIO water kit, an ATX motherboard and call it a day! The main problem I have is teh voltage. If I can get the voltage to be set manually and not the "voltage offset" garbage to be wonky i'd be better! Problem is I could turn Speedstep off, keep it at 4ghz and i could drop the offset there, but then i'd have higher ambient temperature. Because, the problem is when the CPU is not running full tilt, the voltage would drop too low and be unstable.

I appreciate the response, and I understand going with a limited size and limited heatsink will limit things significantly,

disable all power saving features including speedstep, turbo... etc.

see if you can get your cpu to not throttle frequency/voltage

I chose to upgrade my fans because they sucked.

I shoved a 92mm delta fan in the front 80mm fan mount. Because why not.

I replaced the top quiet fan with a PWM 120mm fan, because AIR FLOW SON. I'M TALKING AIR FLOW

I also put a Yate Loon fan in replacement of the stock Cooler Master fan. My temps are now 8c lower.

Wuh that's nice.

I've done a little testing, a little tinkering and I've upgraded my case, power supply, and CPU cooler (Hyper 212+) and i've been having significantly better results.

Right now running a 4.4ghz OC @70c. My Voltages are a little (much) higher than I'd like 1.344v. My Motherboard (asrock z77 pro4-m) sucks since it doesn't have a Vcore settings, it uses offset. I have it at +.025v offset with +.05 additional turbo voltage. The voltage in the bios is rather worthless since it says 1.08v, and CPUz shows 1.344v.

Any experienced hands mind leading me to a better answer? I tried 4.5v and windows refuses to fully boot, so i turned the voltage and multiplier down. My PLL is 1.799, if that matters. The guide i was eyeing said that 1.69-1.98 are decent PLL but I do not understand that fully enough to tinker. I assume it's simply my Motherboard sucks and I should stick with what I have.
