I currently have 2 1680x1050 Dell Ultrasharp 2009W monitors. They are great and I have not had any issues with them in terms of functionality and image quality. I recently ordered a 7970 for $279 which is a great deal and it should be arriving sometime this week. Is it worth upgrading my monitor to a 1080p one or is there little to no real-world different between 1680x1050 and 1920x1080? If I won't notice the difference visually then I won't bother upgrading :)

Have you tried turning it off and on again?

its hard to say if you shoudl upgrade. its more personal preference. My 19 inch monitor that runs at 1440x900 looks as sharp as my 1920x1080 monitor. but if my 19 inch monitor was as big as my 22 inch at the same resolution it would look very blurry or pixelated. if you want a higher resolution monitor go for it but its up to you.

EDIT: the only real difference you might notice will be colour accuracy depending on the monitor you buy. but in terms of resolution I don't know how much you will notice it. 1680x1050 isn't that much lower then 1920x1080. Again its personal preference.

Wow, lots of different opinions :) I won't be doing any professional image editing or tasks that require super accurate color reproduction, just gaming, movies etc. Is the move to 1080p worth it, or should I stick with what I have? I would definitely upgrade if I had a 720p monitor, but since I have 2 1050p monitors I'm not so sure

Have you tried turning it off and on again?

I've got a Dell 1050p next to two BenQ 1080p monitors, and aside from the difference in backlight [Dell isn't LED, it's from 2008] there really is barely a difference.

If you want to upgrade go for something like this:

Frost upon these cigarettes.... lipstick on the window pane...

How much does that cost? My budget is $200 and I'm 90% sure I can't afford it

The non-glossy screen version is like 280$ I think.

Go to Ebay and type "X-Star" you'll find it eventually ^^

I havn't ordered one yet. Had to buy new Laptop [sony Vaio Pro 13], new Phone [Galaxy S 4] and the accessories going with these things so I might order one of two of these in a few weeks or so =P [Exhausting my student budget here ^^]

I seriously don't know anyone personally that games that doesn't at least use 1920x1200. Most of my friends use 2560x1440 or 2560x1600, and a couple do 5760x1080. With 3840 x 2160 already out, I wouldn't consider even 1080p an "upgrade" right now. At least get 1440p. You can get them for $280 bucks, just save up a little.

Get a 1080p IPS panel and use 2 displays--that would make a huge difference.
