My friend is poor and wants a $500 gaming PC that can run decently at 1080p.

Can you guys help me out here?

You could go with an APU build that'll run games fairly well, just gotta throw in a 390 or something later, course the games I play are mostly multiplayer so they don't need much, I'd rather have a quiet low power PC to run them.

 

7870k + 2400mhz RAM and an All in one cooler

No mate!  Lol but you know if you wanna go really budget like a pentium grade build go with an AMD X4 800k with any card that fits his budget after buying a halfway decent case and mobo

If OP decided to get an i5 4460 down the track, it'd be a real beast.

A 290 and a i3 will be fine for now though.

The lack of USB headers on the motherboard!

The system is $500. For a small sacrifice of USB front headers, a 290 is well worth it.

And the bios update argument is silly. That's like saying GPU's come with outdated BIOS's so only buy GPU's that have the most early bios.

The CPU would be the issue

AFAIK if your CPU is not compatible with your Bios version, your system will not post so you cannot update the bios!

Then you end up with a CPU and motherboard that isn't compatible with each other and you are screwed!

 

Also USB 3 headed motherboard isn't much more.

Asus has USB Bios flashback... You will not need even memory in the system to update it...
