[*] My i5 4670k Prime 95 :(

Sad day in time. 

 

It started 1,5 years ago. 

 

We are arrived in a horrible situation. I started overclocking my new cool I5 4670k. With full hopes I started cracking the voltage up. The multiplier went to 44. I was so happy having a great OC. 4.4 is above average. The time went faster the clock went up. 

Restarted my PC and booted up into windows no problems temps were good. Downloaded PRIME 95 for stress testing the cpu for an artificial load. And my dreams shattered. The test was passed but in the mean while Prime 95 destroyed my cpu from the inside. Multi tasking was impossible. FPS drops in every game. PRIME 95 I hate you go away you devils son :(

 

No one please never use PRIME 95.

4.5 is the average.

Prime 95 uses more voltage than you actually give the CPU. So it was a hard lesson. AIDA64 all the way now :)

the latest prime 95 with destroy any cpu the good ones are older versions

I've sifted through 18,000 posts in my Haswell guide, so I've read about it.

 

Prime95 forces more voltage if you use adaptive voltage, not if you use manual. Aida is a terrible stress test - at least in the default settings - full suite, CPU only tests bottom of the pile in terms of temps, power draw, and difficulty. Better off gaming at that point to test stability.

use AIDA bruh, have you reset the CPU ?

I did but didnt help. That is why i have an other cpu now. It was just broken.

Your original post doesn't tell us the voltage/temps you saw under Prime load. What were they?

max cpu temp was 83 on 100% artificial load 

voltage was around V 1.295

You sure that's the Vcore reading and not the vid reading? I find it very hard to believe that 1.3v and 83C + Prime will nuke your CPU. Many people have done far worse (1.35v+, 100C on Prime, etc).

 

It sucks that Haswell chips didn't come with a giant disclaimer about adaptive voltage and Prime (and Linpack/OCCT too IIRC), and I see how your experience will color your impressions about the safety of Prime, but many people have done more than what you have done without problems.

 

In fact, some guys in my Skylake thread already did 24hr Prime runs. I don't even like Prime, and I think 24hr is overkill like crazy, but I wouldn't say it's dangerous.

Maybe i had very bad luck of the draw of getting that cpu.

Same for Prime 95. It doesn't kill CPUs. Users kill their CPUs by incorrectly using Prime95. If you didn't know how to properly use it, too bad, it's your fault, don't blame the program, though.
