hey guys, so im looking to get an SSD to replace my 500GB HDD im using as my boot drive. I'm planning on swapping it over to another build that im going to sell, and would like an SSD to replace it. I have a 3TB HDD for storage that still had about 2.3TB left so i don't need to worry for that end of things, i'm in canada so i would prefer canadian pricing, and i would like enough room to put more than just the OS on it (64GB+) thanks.

My System

CPU - 3570K@4.4Ghz | CPU Cooler - Corsair H100 in pull | Motherboard - ASUS P8Z77-V PRO | RAM - G.Skill RipJawX Blue 8GB 2133Mhz | GPU - Gigabyte Windforce X3 HD7970 | SSD - Patriot Pyro SE 120GB | HDD Seagate Barracuda 3TB | PSU - Corsair TX850V2 | Case - Bitfenix Shinobi XL

Personally 128GB 64 isn't big enough unless you can't nothing but Windows and drivers on it. I actually use my SSD for everything under 1Gb in size.

32GB-64GB but I would get a 128GB

True with this. For Programs and OS i would go for the 128/120 GB models.

60-64GB is enough if you're light on programs but 120-128GB is generally enough.

Those who say you need more are just not good at organizing their programs or think they must put their games on the ssd.

Have it in my laptop and can confirm it's a very good drive.

However, before you buy, check out what the combined space of the following folders is:

  • C:\Windows
  • C:\Program Files
  • C:\Program File (x86)   (if applicable)

Make sure you have enough space to house those folders (with a bit to spare for the appdata folder) on your SSD

well, it totals about 66.2GB, but most of the programs i was just too lazy to install on my 3TB storage drive

It's a decent SSD, but there are better ones on the market.

Like the Samsung 840 and the SanDIsk Extreme.

You could also go for a Kingston Hyper X 3k or Corsair Neutron.

All the ones I've recommended are great, just go with whatever twiddles your fancy.

Look for the v300, Samsung 840, Sandisk Ultra Plus, or Hyper 3k instead--whichever is cheapest.

Don't get the Sandisk Extreme, it's not that good--look for the Extreme II instead.

The Corsair Neutron is not that good compared to cheaper and better alternatives.

What? The SanDIsk Extreme is a great SSD.

Yeah, I was just presenting option (about the Neutron).

http://ssdboss.com/ssds/SanDisk-Extreme-SSD-vs-SanDisk-Extreme-II

The Extreme has a relatively low random read speed which is what makes an ssd feel fast.

The IOPS aren't that good, but it's still a great SSD.

Reliable, decent price, good performance (ignoring that on IOPS score).
