So for those of you who have seen any of Linus' Water cooling guides, you know that Linus' favorite pump is the MCP 655. I agree that this is a wonderful pump for the performance and quietness, but there are a few outstanding issues with the pump that can be improved if you want to pay the price.

1) This pump doesn't use G1/4 standard (the thread that most fittings screw into that is used with most water cooling products).

This is the biggest deal breaker for people who don't like the look of the ugly barbs, or aren't comfortable with stretching their tubing if they aren't using 1/2" ID tubing.

There is a really simple fix for this, you can tap the threads for a fitting yourself, or buy it pre-done at the link below

2) The Pump is ugly plastic and looks like crap

This is another problem that is a big deal, but can be easily fixed. There are multiple mod kits for this pump, like this one

I would recommend having both a Mod Kit and a Pump Top (for attaching the pump to a tube res). This solves both problems as the mod kit generally has G1/4 threads. Check out Singularity Computers' Build Logs on Youtube to see how awesome a pump + res can look. :)

That is a good idea, but custom pump tops void the warranty for this particular pump

thank you, might use these if I plan on upping my loop (soon to come) to also a GPU

Cool man, I would love to see a build log or just pictures when it's done!

Really? I had no idea--thanks for telling me.

These pumps have a ridiculously long MTBF, and you can always take apart the pump top and put the pump back together again. I'd recommend it for most people, but if someone is nervous, then of course do what you feel is best.

If you are going with a basic pump and not planning on getting a pump top or mod kit then at least get the pump that accepts G1/4 fittings. The basic pump with the barbs is crap because you have to really stretch the tubing to get it on the barbs and you only can direct your tubing straight out from the pump. at least with fittings you could use angles off the pump if needed.

mmm, you might be confusing the Swiftech DDC 350/355/35X (noted on

housing no warranty if removed sticker), and that also goes if you swap

it with another Swiftech top, no warranty.

i have never had a D5 pump with such sticker. and if i did dress the pump

out, just slip pump back into its old clothes and RMA time. there is no

tamper-proof label on the D5 that i've come across..

I never mentioned the D5 in this post. The pump top works for the D5 and the MCP655, and i was saying that the you void the warranty on the MCP655 because that is what this thread is about. I have no experience with the D5 so I won't say anything about what you should or shouldn't do with it.

Unfortunately mooommo is correct, disassembling the pump to add a mod top voids your warranty. Still didn't stop me from doing it, Got 2x MCP655 with a Bitspower Dual D5 mod top + 2x bitspower matte black mod kits.

I assume tho that tapping the barbs or mod kit may also void the warranty, cause technically you would still be disassembling the pump wouldn't you?

Just as Airdeano mentioned, I too haven't found any warranty sticker on the housing ring and if I have a problem within the warranty date I'd just grab the default kit and put it back on before sending back for RMA, but the pump is awesome and I've had no problems.

My D5 has been running for over four years, not a single problem. It now resides in an aqualis base, and it's by far the best derelin block I've used with a liang d5.

You should get that replaced soon.

Its reaching the end of its road.
