Sandisk 120GB SSD - Dabs.com £29.99

Gould-Digger

Don't really know much about SSDs and their prices. Been meaning to get one for a long time.

Would this be any good? Thinking it could be a boot drive with my most common used programs.

*The deal*

Enter Voucher code B23FSAVE5 at checkout. Free Delivery available. http://www.dabs.com/products/sandisk-120gb-ssd-plus-sata-6gb-s-2-5--solid-state-drive-B23F.html?src=2

*Edit - The code actually saves you £5 making the SSD only £29.97 :L

At that price it would be worth raiding a couple of the to get the write speeds up a bit.

Yup, I have two Samsung 830's in RAID0. But you reach the limit of SATA6 with only 2 :(

Sata 3 is 6gb/sec? Each drive would have it's own sata connection wouldn't it?

I don't understand your post. :(

I was only talking about 2 drives anyway but I don't comprehend what you mean.

Dat write speed tho...

Even the cheapest SSD is faster than a hard drive ;)

Besides most lower capacity SSDs have pretty poor write speeds, just unlike most they didn't say "up to 540Mbs".

Your preaching to the converted mate, **owner of a SM951 here*** I was simply pointing out the write speed is terrible on this drive and I would personally avoid it in favour of faster drives. Price is fantastic for an SSD however...

What's this in American $$

If I do mental math correctly (and still know the conversion rate) that's right around $60USD.

Correct but the thing about SATA is it cant access multiple devices at once. It  needs to que them (for example SSD1,2,1,2,1,2,1,2,1,2) This means you hit an around about bottleneck of about 1GB/s or just under. You also have to factor in how cable your motherboards built-in RAID controller is.

Ok actually I was wrong, the maximum speed of SATA3 (6GBPS) is 575MB/s. When you run a benchtest with a file size smaller than the SSD's cache you will get false results (hence why my SSD array gets just shy of 1GB/s). If you tried to do that in the real world moving a file larger than its cache then you would slow down to 550~. So adding a third SSD to my RAID0 would net 0 gain.

Another reason why to take abstract benchmarks with a pinch of salt.

oh wow no. it is 46 USD as said by google

It is a decent SSD for any PC. of course you are not going to break writing speed records, but as a cheap boot drive it is perfect
