Computer freezes randomly for a short time.

My computer seems to be freezing a lot lately for no reason. I could be doing something as simple as just being on the browser. What will happen is that my courser will just completely stop moving and the fan will turn on real loud. I can't do a thing. It seems to last around 15-30 seconds and doesn't happen often. I do notice however that during these freezes there is a lot of hard drive activity because the activity light on the side is solid.

Which fan? The CPU fan? Also, can you list your hardware specs?

Idk which fan. I have a laptop. It's the fan on the side that pushes air out.

HP Pavillion dv6

 

RAM:6G

 

OS: Windows 7

 

Processor: AMD A-83520M

 

Display Graphics: AMD Radeon HD 6620G

 

HHD: Toshiba MK647GSX SATA

Was the installation of W7 there to be begin with? Or did you re-install Windows? If not, did you remove any potential bloatware?

I also have this problem on my custom computer. The only difference is that I have Windows 8, and Norton 360 told me that I had high disk usage, so maybe it's my hard drive. Or the SSD. No clue.

Can you give us cpu usage and temperatures using a program like speccy while this happens?

Actually, I've heard the HDD spinning up and then it froze. I just ordered a WD Black 1 terabyte drive last night, so I will swap them out and report my results here when I can.
