Hi LTT forums

My friend just recently gave my a Xonar Phoebus as a gift and as a first time sound card user I really love this. (not audiophile don't kill me)

Anyways I have a concern, i currently have my soundcard right below my reference 780. the 780 puts out a ridiculous amount of heat under load. Will the video card damage my sound card? I don't have any other pcie lanes for the sound card so moving it is not an option. My other plan is maybe a pcie 1x extension. Anyways what do you guys think. I've already under clocked my 780 to 60*c because of the paranoia.

Thanks guys.

lol, it's not emitting radiation (I hope)|

It should be fine, most fans on reference designs are intake, so it will not blow onto the soundcard, rather it will suck in air between the soundcard and the videocard

the aluminum design of the video card emits a lot of radiation......

Can you put a little thermometer on your sound card? Unless it's literally like 100c (doubt it), you don't have to worry.

I think by radiation he meant alpha, beta or gamma radiation. No there shouldn't be any radioactivity.

I really doubt that the heat would damage your sound card. Even if there's only a small gap between them, the sound card shouldn't get anywhere near damaging heat levels.

oh sorry i thought he was talking about heat radiation, the entire shroud of the 780 gets hot to the touch under load.

A reference 780 blows heat mostly out the case, and by looking at your temperatures, you'll be fine.

Well if you dont have another pcie slot to put it in then you cant do much about it!

It might even make the sound warmer... lol

Hey there. You are looking mighty fine today, have my virtual cookie!

I dunno, I was just guessing :) Still, the heat from the shroud shouldn't damage it at all. Just look at some of the SLI and Crossfire setups.
