How much thermal paste is enough?

Go to solution Solved by Samdb,

A small blob the size of a rice grain should do the trick.

Hello all, I have a A10-5800K with a FM2 socket, A few days ago I tried to instal thermal paste and I think I did it wrong, my case was hotter than ever so I took it off. My question is, using the spread method, how much to use? Just enough to cover it?

Remember less is more with thermal paste.

And just spread it around? The mounting system for FM2 I don't trust so I use seram wrap to spread it before I put the cooler on

I would not do that. I would just let the heat sink spread out the thermal paste by itself. Using saran wrap to spread out the thermal paste can cause air bubbles when putting on the heat sink and will in turn cause higher temperature.

The size of a capacitor top. In a ball size shape no bigger than a pea. It's all on personal preference and how the cooler works.

Ok... Should I take it back off afterwards to make sure it spread after?

well be sure to check your temperatures, if they are fine just leave it since getting an air bubble is not always a guarantee. But if its higher than normal I would just to be safe.

What would a normal temperature be lol?

That depends on what cooler you are using and the ambient temperature in your room.

Stock cooler, around 20- 30 degrees celsius with plenty of airflow

That seems normal and also check for your load temperatures.
