Hello,

I have very little knowledge of sound and that is why I am asking in here :).

I have a Sony hts connected to my desktop as a speaker system. The hts itself have 5.1 sorround. But the way the input works to the hts I can only get stereo sound from my desktop. If I insert a CD or DVD to the hts I will get 5.1. And there are no other way for me to connect the speakers to the desktop.

And constantly there is an annoying buzzing sound coming from all 5 of my speakers(only when connected to PC).

Therefore I am thinking of buying the Asus Xonar D2/PM.

Will it improve my sound even though I only have stereo?

Will it remove the annoying (as hell) buzzing sound?

And lastly I have(arriving tommorow) a pair of JVC HA RX700(48 ohms) stereo headphones.

Will the soundcard do anything for those?

BTW I own ALL of my music in the form of CD and I rip ALL the songs in FLAC in ~1004Kbs :)

MB: Msi-b75ma-p45(cheap).

Thank you all for your time :)

improve sound? most likely not

remove buzzing? it may, but it depends where the buzz is coming from. if its ground loop then probably not. if its internal interference then maybe. Sorry not really helpful I know.

Headphones? they are only 48ohms, just about everything should drive them fine.

If you HTS has optical in, you could get a soundcard with optical an out and that will eliminate ground loop.

This Sony HTS? (Google isn't helping right now.)

A sound card with Dolby Digital Live or DTS Connect will give you surround sound over optical if your HTS supports Dolby Digital or DTS format(s). Check the FAQ out if you wanna learn all the things.

Okay I just brain farted so it hurts... Its an PHILIPS hts3011 :).

I can take a picture of the back of the system if it would help?

And the hts do support dolbydigital 5.1 sorround. But will it matter if it can only recieve 2 cables into the back of it?

I don't know what optical in is. CD/DVD player? or a cable on the backside? sorry for being a noob in this area:)

That'd help - I can't find many pictures of it via google.

Optical is a S/PDIF signal sent over a TOSLINK cable. The terminal is square, the top or bottom has slightly rounded corners, and the left/right sides have a single small notch each.

The hts does'nt have optical in.

It has: output to the 6 speakers, video out(via that yellow cable RCL cable), video out via scart and sound in(R-L via RCL).

Up until today I've had 2 screens 1 standard 23" 1080p and an old samsung classic TV. The samsung tv was connected by HDMI to the computer and to the hts via the video output from the hts( I know it has nothing to do with the image on the screen). But if i remove the yellow RCL cable from the either the samsung tv or the hts and turn on the hts, the buzzing gets A LOT worse. You can't hear anything else but the buzzing. But when i reattach the video out from the hts the buzzing gets a lot qeuiter(I know I can't spell).

This is weird:)
