Nvidia GPU(s) Obsolete - Must wait for Artic or Pascal or Volta? Help!

Why don't building a system yourself, could be much cheaper. I'd go for 980 tis, 6gb vram should be fine. You are paying a 300$ premium on a titan x only for a 12gb vram basically so i think it is not worth. wait a minute i can make u a build

@Da Don Giovanni there's no need for 64gb of ram and the system above is more powerful because of the to 980tis, also it will be more expensive as the system above.

With the above system, can I run battlefront and fallout 4 on ÜBER settings? Also is there enough cooling with the above setup? Also your take on the monitor I mentioned in the OP? Thank you so much!!!

What do you think of the cosmos 2 ultra tower by cooler master? More room = more air flow right? With 6709k and sli 980 tis running über setting 4k games, I need maximum air flow right?

Also am I wrong that you cant utilize more than one GPU's VRAM at a time in a SLI config?

You should be able to run games at uber settings or close to it, while being on 1440p, however if you get into 4k, i wouldn't advise uber/extremely high, as it would blast through your FPS.

But again, the performance gap from a 980 ti to a Titan X is only 5% or so, which you can gain back on the 980 ti by overclocking it, as it has a better cooler and custom PCBs, where as the Titan X there is only one version of it.

PS - Vrams does not stack, so if your cards have 6GB each, you have 6GB in total. Thats also why people who really wanna do 4k have Titan X, but I still wouldn't advise you to buy it, due to its ''lack'' of performance for the extra 300$+.

Build it your self with dual 980ti's I would say...

oh and dual 980's is better than a titan, even if ur bottle necking vram in almost every situation the 980's will net more fps and while 4gb + 4gb does only = 4gb you have a higher memory band width with 2 cards.

I would stick with a 25 or 27" 1440 or a 3XXX (whatever) by 1440 ultra wide. 4k is a little bit better but scaling for text is iffy and you will need A LOT more GPU power, if you have $3000 burning a hole in ur pocket go get a 4k g-sync monitor and 2 or 3 980ti's but I don't think its worth it. If you want to play at 4k I would MAYBE say 2 390x's would be better? Or 2 R9 Fury's but I wouldn't be disappointed with any set up, they are all beastly.

Any extra detail you feel like typing on why I shouldn't get the Titan x for 4k gaming would be extremely appreciated by this fat lazy American who loves Denmark! (Lulz) What say you about a case? The monitor by looking at its specs sounds really cool, it has what the LG ultrawide is missing and that is more Hertz, however I honestly wouldn't pay that much for a monitor, and honestly, i couldn't really tell which one to get, as i can't find the one I want either, as i'd like a Ultrawide 30+ inch, IPS with 100-144Hz and 1440p or 4k.

Anyways, the reason why Titan X is ''good'' for 4k is due to its higher vram and that is something that all graphics card will use during 4k, the 980 ti has half of that, but it beats it on bang for the buck and custom.

If I were you, I would probably take that monitor unless you can find something else that is 1440p and has 100-144Hz and get 2x 980 ti, as 1440p is not ''that'' demanding on vram.

Look at it from this perspective, the Titan X costs 300$+ more but doesnt give you 300$+ worth of performance, you could spend this money else where, espicially when you're looking at 980 Ti's. Anyways regarding a case, I would probably go with something like a Corsair 900D (even tho it has not outstanding airflow performance) or something in the Caselabs range.

I hope this helps!

You shouldn't get a Titan because its $350 more for a Titan than a 980Ti. $350 for 6gb of v-ram on a stock PCB, the clock, number of unites and memory bandwidth is exactly the same. I would either get 2 980's (if $1000 is you max budget) or get an OCed custom PCB 980Ti like an EVGA classified or a Galax HOF for $700 then play away and maybe save for another 980Ti to sli with.

Thank you! What about the monitor I linked in the previous comment (above this).

That monitor is basically exactly what I was talking about, a 3440 x 1440 ultra wide G-sync monitor.

It seems to be the consensus that that monitor is every hardcore video editor/ gamers dream, yet no one wants to fork over $1,000 for it. So we settle for something less. I'm tired of settling for less, if I have to put it on the credit card and pay it off over 12 months, fine then, but in not getting a 1080p monitor no matter what!

Well.. In my opinion 1000$ is alot, when monitor only used to be $200-300, atleast those I bought :) But then again 1440p & UHD/3860p is still not too common, which is why it has a premium.

But yeah overall its a cool monitor, and if it were this ''cheap'' around here it would probably compete with the LG Ultrawide, which is probably 400-500$ cheaper here.

LMFAO you sound like Linus reviewing it... I'm personal going for the 2560 x 1440 $600-$700 ROG swift or acer predator but all 3 are very good higher than 1080 resolution with a higher pixel density than a 24" 1080p monitor, g-sync monitors.

Custom 980Ti destroy the TitanX.

And i would build the PC myself, the prebuild PC´s are expensive as fuck.

And 64GB RAM...thats such a waste.

Sorry for new thread but didn't see any recent discussions on this (most google results were from 2013/14.

Simply put I want the new Acer G6-710 Predator Desktop when it comes out, it looks sick. I also require 6700k Skylake and want the latest and greatest tech (been running cheap laptops for years now, want a desktop to last years) However it has a standard 980 from the factory, I realize for the price of a Titan x you could get more power with 2 980 TI's in SLI.

Here in lies my question: My brief self education on GPU's has taught me that you can only access one GPU's VRAM at a time in SLI. Concerning because GTAV at max settings uses 5700Mb of VRAM.

In order to run Star Wras battlefront, Balls to the walls ÜBER SETTINGS, and fallout 4 wouldnt I be better off with a TITAN X?

Also can you TRULY, and I mean TRULY tell the difference between 1440p and 4k while blowing up cars and general chaos gaming? Because I was going to get this: https://www.g-sync.com/news/acer-x34-100hz-ips-ultrawide-g-sync-gaming-monitor/

Thanks in advance!

SW Battlefront is a AMD title...From what i know it will feature mantle and DX11, unless Dice decided to change to DX12 in a hurry.....

So yey, you bought the wrong brand for that game :P

what you want my friend is 2x 390X in Crossfire....

what would it give you?

Better then 980TI or TitanX performance.

8GB of GLORIOUS VRAM for ALL THAT FALLOUT MODDING

980 performance in case Crossfire profiles doesnt work.

GLORIOUS POWER DRAW.

Downside? you'd have to buy the Freesync version of that monitor.....

There is no point in purchasing a GPU, where the some games are better optimized for it, buy the one that is good performance overall and what gives you the most bang for the buck.

Honestly, the AMD GPUs aren't that amazing, the Fury was supposed to compete with the 980 ti but came short. Also 2x 390x is horrible, those GPUs are what 3-4 years old, rebranded so many times its a joke.

Just get an Nvidia card and you will be alot better off, and you will never have to explain your self either, as you would settle by going to the darkside (AMD) at the moment.

oh boy, were we go with the amd vs Nvidia, I couldn't think of a better time for amd/Nvidia people to convince some as I'm about to order my parts at pcpartpicker and if either amd/Nvidia are better than one another I need to know now.

I'd would advise you to check out reviews for the particular graphics card, that you are going to get, and see what to expect from it, if you're happy with that, go for it. I would personally suggest a Gigabyte 980 Ti G1 (atleast if thats your route), as it has been proven to be one of the best, if not the best 980 Ti card.

I highly believe that is a rumour and highly doubt that it is true, as it would be really stupid of Nvidia to do so, as this is their brand new lineup, honestly why would they?

Further more, it has been stated that Microsoft and Nvidia has worked together on DX12.

Honestly, you can never know. While I have a friend who just loves to cry wolf about component manufacturers - especially GPU companies - and I often call him out for his conspiracy theories, you can't really deny that they do look at profits first. Since the 900 series was released during the DX11 cycle, and after what Nvidia pulled with the 970, it's not exactly impossible that they did work with Microsoft but did not bring all the DX12 features to the 900 series, instead holding them off for Pascal. This would also explain the significant AMD lead in the benchmarks of Ashes.

And, I was just about to get a new build with a 980 Ti. Now, I'm just confused!
