Will my current rig handle a GTX 980ti?

PenguinForce

Hi all new here,

I am looking to upgrade to a 980ti. I am wondering if my current spec is up to scratch.

The two main things I am worried about are if my processor could bottleneck it and if my PSU is good enough for the 980ti.

CPU: Intel i5-3570K(stock clock)
GPU: EVGA GeForce GTX 570 HD, 1280MB DDR5
RAM: KINGSTON 8GB DDR3 1333MHz
PSU: Corsair GS600 600W

Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-Z77M-D3H, Intel Z77, mATX

Thanks.

Yeah it runs great, no need to upgrade the CPU. It's fine already.

Thanks for the quick replies.

I have to ask why the K series CPU if you arent gonna overclock:P. But yes it should be fine..

Ha fair enough question. I knew someone is going to ask. I was gonna go overclock it back when I first built this rig and then I just never got around to doing it. Then my interest in computer hardware died down for a bit until recently. So no complicated reasons :P

I was kind of surprised my PSU is good enough for this card. I almost thought I would need to upgrade that as well.

The 3570K is still a great chip. I have the 3770K and a couple of 980 Ti in my machine and whilst I see a tiny bit of a bottleneck, I can't see a single card being held back by your CPU.

Yes, but i would suggest a 700w+ PSU though.

Easy, yes.

After checking the EVGA website on their 980ti card's spec sheet they do recommend a minimum of 600 watts PSU. I meet the minimum requirement but I understand that I should have some overhead.

I want to avoid upgrading the PSU as it will add to the overall cost as I am already going to spend €800~ for the GPU alone.

What do you guys think?

Go for it. It should run without problems, for a time at least.

Its alway better to have extra juice, the lifespan of the PSU can go down if it has to work at its limits all the time.

You'll be fine with 600W. People often overestimate the power draw of their system:

The only "single card solution" that would draw more than 600w from the full system is the 295x2. Your power supply should be fine.

I am thinking of going with EVGA again, good warranty/customer service and MGS:V Phantom Pain comes with it as well.

There are quite a lot of choices to choose from like SC, SC+, Classified. Would these factory OC'd cards increase power draw and put more stress on my PSU?

I used the expert PSU calculator from that link. It said my recommended PSU is 564 watt with a 980ti SC+ at 1102Mhz core clock.

MGS:V comes with every 980Ti, no matter what brand you buy. And yes. Customcards need more Power.

Does that mean I should avoid these SC version of cards and just get the stock clock versions? Or does it really matter too much?

Oh yeah that was what I meant. Custom card but no factory overclock.

Unless you are suggesting I should go with those factory overclock versions.

Buy an overclocked Card. If something should go wrong, you always can send it back. But it should run just fine, you have a quality PSU. Like i said before, its not good for the PSU to run at its limits. If necessary you can upgrade in the Fture.

Cool and good suggestion. Then I will probably go for EVGA GeForce GTX 980 Ti Superclocked+ ACX 2.0+ :)

Of course if anyone have anymore suggestions it is always welcomed :)

I won't be getting the card until the end of September so plenty of time to decide :P
