PC Idea on a tight budget

Go to solution Solved by Thunder Down Under,

This is about as good as you can get for the money. The radiator goes in the top and you have two fans for the front and one for the back. I will post a link to a fan hub because your motherboard only supports 2 fans but that's a super easy fix with a fan hub.

List=http://pcpartpicker.com/p/6z2Qbv

Fan hub=http://www.amazon.com/Thermaltake-SATA-Powered-Port-AC-007-AN1NAN-A1/dp/B00O5VX6UQ/ref=sr_1_18?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1440469628&sr=1-18&keywords=fan+splitter

Hello Guys!

This is my first post in LTT. I came here because I have a build in mind, but where I live, there is not much selection of pc parts. I want to use it for gaming, 3d modelling, medium photoshop use, high adobe premiere, low AE, and streaming movies. It doesnt have to be 4k gaming but I would like 1080 or 1440.  Here is the build:

Cpu: Intel i7 4790

Gpu: Msi 750ti 2gb

RAM: Vengeance Corsair 2X4GB

HDD: Seagate Barracuda 2X1TB

SDD: Kingston 120Gb

I left out somethings I wanted to talk about. I am constantly traveling internationally. Plus, if everything goes out well, I should go overseas to study (planning WAY ahead, but its better to be prepared). I need an small, compact case (handles if possible), like the BitFenix itx. The thing is that its itx, so only special pieces can go in, like itx and atx. I left out the motherboard for that reazon. I was going to use the MSI gaming z97. And the cooling. I wanted to go with a water cooler, like the maelstrom 240, or anything really. But I dunno if it will explode midair. I have NO actual tech knowledge whatsoever, just hypothetical. I guess i could unscrew it if needed, but I really need a yes or no answer to go the safe way.

And the last issues, budget. Where I live, the charge about 18 percent for tax, and 20 percent for the build (i think, or maybe it is the profit the have ). I think I am not distributing well my funds. My grand total according to the shopowner is 5300 Pen which would be like 1800 Dollars. That is way to much for me. I would like to stay between the 1000-1500 limit.

I hope you guys can help

FYI: Peripherals will be corsair k30 keyboard, razer tartarus, razer naga hex, Skullcandy Slyr. And my internet is 5m (which i hope to improve further)

Yes, I built a desktop and its a pretty big pain, you have to bring monitors too

I really thought about it, but I havent found a model that is capable of customizing. Plus, here, a gaming laptop like the Msi apache costs more than the build I have planned.

A good gaming laptop isn't that bad of an idea. It's jus that you need to pay more to get more.

Monitors aren't much of a deal, because there is always a television with hdmi, so i just need to plug it in an play. I've seen a friend doing that with a pc at a sleepover once.

What would you recommend?

This is very small and far more powerfull than any laptop in it's price range. It says the list needs a cooler but it comes with the motherboard.

And if you need a screen here's one that can power off nothing but one USB 3.0 port which is on that case.

http://www.amazon.com/MB168B-15-6-Inch-Screen-LED-Lit-Monitor/dp/B00H0FK2A6/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1439878736&sr=8-3&keywords=usb+3+screen

And here is a bluetooth keyboard with full sized keys that folds up into the size of a smartphone

If that's too much money then I can drop the 1TB SSD to a 250GB just for the OS and Program's and add a 1TB mechanical drive for storage and save you about $200 but you would have to be way more careful because mechanical drives can't be bumped around as much as SSD's.

Wow. Thanks alot. I think a 250gb ssd would be better. I've seen a silicon hdd carrying case that is about 5 dollars, more or less, which I would totally buy. If i dropped from the i7 to the i5, would there be a bottle neck situation going on? And, I've been also a fan of liquid cooling. I've browsed the web looking if it was ok to travel with a liquid cooler, but i havent found a consistent answer. My worst fear would be someone from security cutting open the tubes and ruining my whole pc. Plus, do you think these parts would fit in a BitFenix or a Raijintek Metis? (just for aesthetics)

Well if you want something for video editing then I would recommend a i7. The other was expensive because it was a 6 core so if you want something cheaper but will still perform well you can do a quad core i7. Here is a new list and I wasn't sure what case so I just picked one that was semi small, had a handle, and looked nice(this case come in many color's so you have that option to). I don't think a watercooler on a portable system is a good idea and to be honest you don't need one because you can get just as much cooling with air coolers now. I put in a more powerfull GPU, a more stable PSU, and some led fan's the 200mm is for the front, the AF140mm is to replace the back fan, and the two SP140mm are just an option's if you want to put some led fan's on the CPU heatsink to make it look cool with a red glow. P.S. you may have to take out the middle drive cage but you'll still have three slots in the bottom cage.

Here is a blue themed build that I managed to get that 6 core CPU into and once again the 90mm fans are optional replacements for the one's on the CPU cooler.

If you don't like the red or blue build's once again just let me know

If you really want to do a watercooled CPU cooler then hear are some list's for that. The H100i and motherboard are compatible on the blue one the wedsite is wrong.

If you're after a custom watercooling loop like Linus did in the video with this case it is going to cost you about $500 to $600 for the watercooling part's alone. Maybe $350 if you really look for good deals.

I would prefer going with the non water cooled rig right now. I am going to do further research about if its safe. I was wondering if the Win 10 Pro could be downgrade to Home. Plus, the case I wanted was that model, but green, do they have it in stock? And does it haves a window? You have really helped me a lot :)

(You know, i think im going to go with water cooled)

Now nobody seems to make a green motherboard but I think the next best thing would be black with green leds. So I put some green led fans and I will include a link to some green led lighting strips. Another problem is the coolest looking black mini ITX motherboard (in my opinion) is not available right now but I will include a link to it so you can put in your email and get notified when/if they become available however I can include another board on the list that is still pretty cool. Now this motherboard only has two fan headers (only enouph for CPU cooler) but I put a fan controller on the list that will just go in the 5 1/4 inch bay(and you can change the leds to green on it).I also changed the PSU due to an oversight on my part because it was going to be near impossible to plug anything into it (because of its size) so I found one that is smaller and won't have this problem . As far as custom watercooling well I don't feel like I know enouph to give you correct info but there's a guy on youtube who has been doing it for about 12 years and this is his channel https://www.youtube.com/user/Jayztwocents and he does some informative video's on it. Now as far as the AIO (all in one) watercoolers like the h100i that is in the other list's I made it performs only 3 degrees cooler than the current aircooler on this list https://youtu.be/-DZucjXH0VI this video shows it. So it all just comes down to what you like as you can get good performance either way and you should'nt have any problems but if you want to use that AIO let me know because you will need a different fan controller if you do. And these cases unfortunately don't have side panel windows. I haven't done that much research on windows 10 so i'm really not sure. P.S. If you use the CPU aircooler don't put a fan in the top back vent as it will fight it for air. The 140mm is to replace the very back fan and I changed your GPU from a R9 390 to a GTX 970 only to match the theme however the 390 performs just a bit better than the 970 but does not come in green, only red, yellow, and black.

I was just talking about the case being green. But somehow, this is cheaper than the other models, so I think I will stick with it! Any motherboard you think is budget safe and functional is okay. I really don't understand the terms AIO and that stuff. I got a little bit confused there, could you explain it again?

Sorry about that AIO stands for "all in one" because the pump, tubes and radiator all come in one pre-filled sealed loop unlike a custom watercooling set up where you have to buy the pump, tube, and radiator separate and build and fill it yourself. And if you want it to be cheaper I will make another list that will perform the same and be cheaper. Do you ever plan on overclocking? If you're not then I can make it even cheaper than the list below.

GPU= Graphics card

CPU=Processor

PSU= Power supply

I don't really see myself overclocking frequently. Perhaps once in a while, just to run games at ultra to see how they look. The All in One seems like a good idea, since i am a tech noob. Does the motherboard supports LAN, or only WiFi? And does it haves bluetooth? And which fans do I choose to put?

It has 2 LAN port's, WIFI, and Bluetooth 4.0.  What color fans do you want? Do you want LEDS? If you do what color leds? As far as overclocking goes it's more of a permanent thing so while you can change it back and forth you're taking a lot of risk and you may turn your motherboard into a very nice paper weight. Now if I change this you can't overclock the CPU but you can still overclock the GPU so it's up to you but it will save you some money. And do you want watercooling for looks or performance?

I guess I will stick with overclocking then. And the water cooling is for perfomance.
