Ok, so i'm kinda stuck between these cards. I'm building a computer for gaming and its aimed at around 2000$. I've picked everything and i'm down to the graphics card and i just can't choose. Some of you will say obviously 780 because it achieves better fps in game then the hd 7970. But i have been reading reviews from different sources and i have seen that the 7970 matrix achieves 5-15 more fps than the reference. Making me think, if the 7970 is 10-20 fps slower than the 780 in some cases will the 7970 matrix be nearly the same? I'm not an expert which is why im asking this question. I live in Australia and the 7970 costs 600$ while the 780 cost 870$. Im going to play bf3 for the next few months until bf4 comes out. Since bf4 and most new games are going to be optimized for amd gpus since the new consoles are coming out is the 7970 a better choice for me?  I will be playing these games on low since i rather the fps over looks like i play bf3 right now.

Thnx to anyone that replies and helps me with this.

You have three options here: Buy the 780, buy the 7970, or wait for AMD's 9000 series.

770 has the same performance as 7970

760 has the same performance as 7950

Bang for the buck, you should not go higher then 770 /7970 today

If the matrix card has 5-15 mor fps that is because it is already overclocked

I suggest that you dont get anything higher the 770 /7970.

Remember that is it not just the fps that counts. Also look at the prize, power, noice, cooling etc.

(I personal really like blower design fans, they get the heat directly out of the case, making the need of extra fans lower.)

The 780 is definitely more powerful. The question is whether or not you'll be able to use that power.

A single 7970/770 maxes out pretty much everything at 1080p.

There is close to no chance of it being twice as fast, but in all honesty, I'd expect it to be around 5-15 MAYBE 20% better, but we'll have to see when it comes out with the appropriate drivers..
