Upgrade advice, AMD Xfire fix?

heineygoat

Has anyone heard or know about the success of AMD's Xfire fix released on the 31st of July?

I currently have a single 7970 and if I want to Xfire it I would need a new PSU.

For the same price as a 7970 and PSU, I can get a single 780.

If AMD new driver actually works then I'm sure a 7970 Xfire would perform better than a 780.

New PSU and 7970 Xfire or Single 780? What do?

New psu and 7970.

They're not that far from Nvidia's 690 in terms of micro stuttering.

The fix works for most applications, it works very well. Still not as good a nvidia in terms of frame problems. There are problems with eyefinity set ups though where the driver doesn't support multiple monitors. Also bear in mind that some screens, 4k 60hz, are technically eyefinity because of the way the work so aren't supported

I am good at computer

From what I've seen from multiple people the new driver fixes it but things like eyefinity isn't supported on the driver yet.

If you want one now, 7970 Crossfire with new PSU.

If you can wait, 9970.

Don't get the 780's but Nvidia cards have frame latency problems when under heavy load that AMD cards don't have. SLI amplifies said problem.

Would you notice running at 45FPS with dropping down to 35FPS as annoying or running at 60FPS dropping to 20FPS as more annoying?

The first situation is what occurs with AMD and the second situation is Nvidia.

I was personally surprised to see how successful this driver was, the new frame-pacing tech Heartbeat™ really does work very well.
There are currently a few limitations, for example it is still not implemented into DX9 and eyefinity, the reason for this according to AMD is because they wanted to get the driver out the door as soon as possible, so DX9 & eyefinity support is definitely coming but they wanted to released what they had ready at hand.

In terms of single monitor solutions the frame-pacing works really really well, keeping the latency between the frames below 3ms, which is well below the 10ms & 7ms perceivable targets for the average gamer.

What power supply do you currently have ?

A 7970 and PSU is going to be cheaper than a 780 and give you more performance.  I did the same recently and it cost me $470, almost $200 less than a 780.
