Recommendations for software to scan my HD to ensure its safe to use?

So I have 2 HDD's I've not used in a year or 2 and I loaded them up and a couple of hours later I got a warning that one was going to fail. Now I dont exactly trust Windows tbh so anyone know of any software that will reliably test the HDD's and maybe even ensure that any corrupt sectors get locked off?

It worked pretty quick actually, found the bad drive in seconds. And it is bad sectors, its reaching the threshold but I still have a 30% of the threshold left

 

So any ideas on what to use next?
