It won't look very symmetric, but it will greatly increase your productivity, once you go multi-monitor you'll never go back! ;)

Well i'm getting a 1440p monitor when i build my pc and i was wondering if it is worth it to buy a second 1080p for videos, forums and just a second screen for work/ things while i'm gaming on the 1440p one.

I have a PB278Q 27" 1440 monitor. I definitely think it would be kind of overkill to get another one of those, but I'd be fine with a 24" 1080p as a second  ;). You'd be surprised how much more you can do with 2 monitors.

I have 2 $15 monitors from a Goodwill Computer store for this very purpose. Totally worth it. I love being able to be in Full Screen on a game and can mess with my music, monitor my internet usage, or change program volume on another screen.

Very awesome.

I work on two 19" 1280x1024's + 1 13" 1200x800 in the middle which will be upgraded to a 23" 1920x1080 + 15" 2560x1800 and I love the space I have to use for things like Skype, iTunes etc. I wouldn't want to go any bigger in terms of monitor size though as I quite like the compactness.

Hmm now that i'm looking at it i might as well get a 1200p since it will be for work not gaming, i will leave that to the 1440p one :D everyone loves some good vertical  screen real estate.

If i agree with cacao, from presonnal experience i can tell you that dual monitors help greatly if you are doing work which requires several documents or sources or just browsing the web ect, a second screen is exceptionally helpfull. I personally used an old computer in my family`s kitchen for ages over my pc simply because of the dual monitors.

And creeping moth the icons will infact be diff (well proportionally with pixel density) however the screen is juxtaposed (i believe it attempts to line up the top of each screen however one ends (in terms of pixel count) before another (ei a page that might be entierly vissible on one screen would be cut off on the other) - sorry if thats not entierly clear but thats what the monitors im currently sitting in front off seem to be doing...

I would do it. I cant use just 1 monitor anymore.

Life is pain. Anyone who says any different is either selling something or the government.

How does it work having a 1440p monitor and a 1080p monitor? As everything looks smaller on the 1440p monitor, when you move your mouse onto the 1080p monitor does it get slightly get bigger?

The difference in pixel density is so small that you don't notice it, it's more like having 1 oddly shaped monitor.

For gaming I wouldn't bother, but for productivity I wouldn't go back from my 3 monitor setup, I run 1440p as my main center monitor and a 1080p monitor either side.
