so recently, my games (battlefield 3, Natural selection 2, euro truck sim2, and skyrim) have suffered a SIGNIFICANT drop in performance, but with absolutely no change in software or hardware.. no windows updates, no drivers changed, settings stayed the same, but it's just performing significantly worse than it was before. i'm used to running around every map at 100fps on max in every game i play, now i barely scrape 60's sometimes, mostly 40's to 50's. SLI is enabled, my cards both work (tested individually), and their clocks are matched with eachother. does anyone have any idea what's going on?

specs:

AMD FX-6200 @4.1 w/ Corsair H55 liquid cooler

2 gtx 660ti's (1 pny, 1 evga)

AsRock Extreme3 990fx mobo

16gb ddr3 @ 1600

thermaltake 850w 80+ psu

and a 60$ Cup-holder... i mean blu-ray drive...

All games played at 1080p

thanks for any help

     Habib

Quick note:

all temps were monitored, nothing was even close to overheating. and i recently started playing Lost Planet 2, and to my surprise, 146fps average on max!? last time i checked, this game is more intensive than skyrim, or NS2, so what's going on???

one of the 2 cards probably can't keep up and has an unstable overclock which causes it to drop in performance so bad that you have to restart your pc or re-install your Nvidia drivers. counter this by testing your games after resetting stock speeds and restarting your computer.

Use MSI afterburner to monitor GPU usage, i had a similar problem a few weeks ago, it turned out that the 2nd GPU wasn't being used at all......

To fix this all i did was remove the drivers and re-install them

Did you check in the Nvidia control panel if it was SLi enabled?

as windows has a tendancy to disable it sometimes, especially after an update or something, sometimes just random.

If it continues go to Nvidia and download the latest drivers, if it all worked before its most likely something simple.

got to love Asus components

This may help you as I was getting the same problem. I am using 2x 670s in SLI. I had V-sync off in BF3 and set to ''use the 3d application setting'' in Nvidias control panel. However, through this I was barely getting 50+fps on ultra on 1920x1080. Now that I have both of them off ie- changed from ''use the 3d application setting'' to ''off'' in Nvidias control panel, I am getting 140+fps on ultra on 1920x1080. Quite wierd, huh?

Either way, I'm pretty glad its working now fine and for the last couple of days, I was pretty sure that something inside my comp had gone kapoosh. I just wish Nvidia would understand that the ''let the 3D application decide feature is seriously broken. I really hope this works for you too. BTW- Try restarting your computer after this. I know this sounds really outdated, but sometimes, my fps goes down to 35+fps and restarting my computer gets me back to my previous amount. Do tell me if this works for you too! :)
