Man arrested in London for charging his phone on a public train

Syntaxvgm

The outlets are standard British 3 pin socket, they are the floor out of the way and have a sticker "not for public use, only for the cleaners."

yah I noticed that later in the thread. Which  really surprises me, I've never been on a train without a few public outlets.

muh specs

Gaming and HTPC (reparations)- ASUS 1080, MSI X99A SLI Plus, 5820k- 4.5GHz @ 1.25v, asetek based 360mm AIO, RM 1000x, 16GB memory, 750D with front USB 2.0 replaced with 3.0  ports, 2 250GB 850 EVOs in Raid 0 (why not, only has games on it), some hard drives

Screens- Acer preditor XB241H (1080p, 144Hz Gsync), LG 1080p ultrawide, (all mounted) directly wired to TV in other room

Stuff- k70 with reds, steel series rival, g13, full desk covering mouse mat

All parts black

Workstation(desk)- 3770k, 970 reference, 16GB of some crucial memory, a motherboard of some kind I don't remember, Micomsoft SC-512N1-L/DVI, CM Storm Trooper (It's got a handle, can you handle that?), 240mm Asetek based AIO, Crucial M550 256GB (upgrade soon), some hard drives, disc drives, and hot swap bays

Screens- 3  ASUS VN248H-P IPS 1080p screens mounted on a stand, some old tv on the wall above it.

Stuff- Epicgear defiant (solderless swappable switches), g600, moutned mic and other stuff.

Laptop docking area- 2 1440p korean monitors mounted, one AHVA matte, one samsung PLS gloss (very annoying, yes). Trashy Razer blackwidow chroma...I mean like the J key doesn't click anymore. I got a model M i use on it to, but its time for a new keyboard. Some edgy Utechsmart mouse similar to g600. Hooked to laptop dock for both of my dell precision laptops. (not only docking area)

Shelf- i7-2600 non-k (has vt-d), 380t, some ASUS sandy itx board, intel quad nic. Currently hosts shared files, setting up as pfsense box in VM. Also acts as spare gaming PC with a 580 or whatever someone brings. Hooked into laptop dock area via usb switch

Probs thought he was hacking the train!

Seriously though why leave ports open and around if they are not to be used... Silly....

Also the charger maybe similar to car lighter ports

Probably because in a civilized world, you would expect people to follow rules.  You shouldn't babysit your citizen.

If on the sockets it says, and I quote the article "Electricity sockets on Overground trains are clearly marked with the words: “cleaners use only and not for public use

Then I don't understand what in hell this "artist" is complaining about.

He should have been thrown for a night in a cellar and be forgotten, he's a waste of public time and resources, those police men could have been somewhere else needed.

Not to mention that he was 'de-arrested' for using the sockets, but arrested a second time for being aggressive and disturbing public peace (?). Now that's an acquisition I can get behind, especially towards aid instances (for lack of a better word).

New to Star Citizen? Look no further!

Electric trains in my area have a single outlet under the disabled seat, I believe it's designed for electrical wheelchairs etc, it's hidden and not to be used for normal stuff.

Sometimes seems like the UK is the only part of Europe which hasnt really gotten over the idea of fascism. I bet if the UK had seen the result of that mentality up close and personal, like rest of Europe did in WW2, the UK would be quite different today.

For real, if you ever visit the UK, look around, pay attention to the simple details of living there. The feeling is all around.

The fact that anything green in the cities is behind a fence and cameras.

Fact that they have regulations how far you can open your window (very narrow)... for real, they are constructed with this in mind.

The escalators even tell you what to do.

Yeah, that kinda crap is why there is no reason at all to ever visit the UK. A shame really, because I'd love to visit Scotland.

Seriously, they have a regulation on how far you can open your window?

To me this sounds like he made it a hell of a lot worse on himself by being an ass when he was told that those outlets are not for charging his phone.

The man should've said: "IF THERE'S A HOLE, IT'S A MAN'S DUTY TO PLUG IT!!!"

Then again, it;s not like i don't understand where the authorities are coming from (I used to work for a library where electricity use is monitored and charged accodingly, as explicitly stated in all user handbooks and the several signs in the library)... The rule which based his arrest is outdated and should logically not apply for today...

Oh wow. I'm sure you'd be perfect for a job at the north korean police. You should go apply right now.

I know right?

Social marxism ruling, meaning you can't have an opinion without being called racist/sexist/ableist, whatever tumblr bs, people say today. UK wants to ban encryption, and is the most surveilled society in the world. Not even north korea has that many cameras. What are they doing over there? What are the people thinking?

Throw a man in jail for a day, and deprive him of his freedom, because he charged a phone for a few minutes? This entire story is a nice definition of the word draconian.

You know it's a bad crisis when 0,00001 cent of electricity had this much worth.

If I was a cop I would have walked to the man and say

"Alright sir you're appropriating electrical power from this station apparently, you need to either come with us or pay this man 0.00001 pounds, if you have a coin with you I will personally make sure that you can charge your phone here for a full year"

WTF!?!?!?!? Why did they even put them there if the public wasn't supposed to use them?

What under seats out of peoples view you mean?

Tthey are there principally so the cleaners can plug in their hoovers etc.  They are NOT placed there for public use and each one is accompnied by a sign saying this .  The alternative would be extremely long extension cords .  Sounds like the PCSO (hobby bobbie) was overzealous in having the man areested but he was de-aressted when the real police got a hold of him but it sounds like he went into full "muh rights/do you know who I am mode and then got arrested for that.

But more important, seriously they arrested him for charging his phone?!?!?!? Sounds fake

Yes then de arested him but he was such a gobshite that the offence he was then arrested for was noising up the police.  Why could he not just shut his mouth and walk?  People like him are featured on all these fly on the wall cop shows.  The police do not want the hassle so they are told to shut-up and walk away but they manage to swear and rant at the police untill they can no longer ignore them and the swearing shouting people get arrested
