PSU ranking and tiers

Aniallation

I used to have the exact same unit as in the picture I posted above on their main website page. Except it was branded as OCZ instead. It's a rather old PSU (but a decent Sirtec unit) that they're just reusing under the FirePower name, as well as the PC Power and Cooling Silencer Mk III.

I see, neat. interested to see where they end up in the list.

Near the top, trust me. They changed their name not long ago but used to be PC Power and Cooling. They created the first great multi GPU PSU in most peoples minds. The Silencer 750 Quad.

The PSU was so great it came out in 2007 and was still a top seller until 2014 when they changed their name and discontinued it.

Edit: Actually it wasn't simply a name change, I see. Either way they are still pretty amazing.

I think the oldest OEM still around is SeaSonic honestly. Not sure tho ^_^

Haha honestly no idea but SeaSonic is great. Only brand I buy besides FirePower when it comes to needing a quality PSU.

Well it's not an OEM, it's a brand, basically a new name for OCZ (which PC P&C was a subsidiary of) PSUs. The ModXStream Pro is a Sirtec, while the Silencer Mk III I believe is a Super Flower.

Edit: at least for the 850W model it is Super Flower http://www.jonnyguru.com/modules.php?name=NDReviews&op=Story5&reid=336

Edit 2: Turns out some are Super Flower and some are Seasonic, but both are solid OEMs for the Silencer Mk III

I've used CM, TT and SeaSonic - CM are fine, TT are crap, SS is awesome.

CM can go from crap (like their Thunder series) to very solid (like the Seasonic G based full modular V series)

I used Elite - held together an Athlon + 5670 and later 6850 for almost 4 years and is still going strong.

Elite are ok, nothing special but works, similar for Corsair CX

well, my 460W was essentially a 400W unit with a higher price tag with 1 protection missing. Funnily enough - it made it past over 20 power surges and spikes without even budging the slightest, it once started at 40V input and didn't break and not once did it show signs of instability, except after the 25th? power surge. Had to restore bios to defaults to fix.

Sometimes you get decent units. I had a Dynex 400W power an Athlon X4 and 9800GT perfectly fine for 7 years and afaik still works to this day (my friend has the PC now)

I mean like, my Retail Plus (yes, that's the brand) "465W" which can only deliver 26A on the 12V rail has been running a Core 2 Duo and an 8800GTS for 7 years now with no issues, but I still wouldn't put it anywhere near the "meh" section lol. Sometimes you get lucky with really cheapo PSUs but other times it's digging yourself into trouble.

retail plus makes PSUs. last time I checked they made shitty webcams and mice

Thats that. If you need to get in touch chances are you can find someone that knows me that can get in touch.

Yup, like my friend's unit that's been working for 7 years now. Not even rated at continuous power yet has been fine ^_^

Question - why are "FSP Raider 80+ silver" dangerous? I'd think they'd be meh or something like that
