PSU ranking and tiers

Aniallation

I also forgot to mention, a friend of mine has a Terminal Power 350W PSU. It's a very no-name one but has been running for close to 7 years now without any real issues. That I guess does fit the "meh" description but considering it's old, might not be made anymore.

I mean like, my Retail Plus (yes, that's the brand) "465W" which can only deliver 26A on the 12V rail has been running a Core 2 Duo and an 8800GTS for 7 years now with no issues, but I still wouldn't put it anywhere near the "meh" section lol. Sometimes you get lucky with really cheapo PSUs but other times it's digging yourself into trouble.

Yeah, I see what you mean. Point taken.

On another note, the P and X seasonic series as well as Snow Silent deserve a spot on the top.

*Eagerly awaits*

You can use my list if ya want, though the PSUs in that list are just ones that won't blow up your system. Nothing about any being better than the other aside from mentions of Seasonic and Super Flower.

Added what I could get off the top of my head

He got offline T~T I don't see what is wrong about them tho. It seems like a fine PSU to me

Well looks like he's not taking attention to it... afaik his TR2 killed his 290 and some other parts.

It works but for how long is the question. I wouldn't pull any more then half it's sticker wattage rating from it.

I also got talking with a friend. Has anyone heard of "Medion" PSUs/Mobos/GPUs? A friend has a PSU, ivy mobo and 660 by them. Been working fine for 2 years without issues. Maybe add them somewhere if you can find any info on em?

Quite a bit, actually. The G1 is good for efficiency and it's about it. The B2 is technically 80+ Silver but for some reason it's rated as 80+ Bronze.

Another addition for "to be avoided" - Rexpower units
Some cheapo unknown brand. A good friend's brother has a 500W unit and it's as loud as a vacuum (no kidding, I've seen it). No idea how it's been working for 4+ years.

I'd still mark that as a generic brand name unit

I mean, look at it

-snip-

While it's been working for 4 years or so I still don't feel like telling people that it's an okay unit since my friend has an athlon 5200+ and 7950 gt (both drawing probably about 200W) hooked up to a 500W unit. I sincerely doubt it can output it's max capacity.

FPS Raider are pretty good power supplies with great efficiency. Review

So why should they be avoided? I have one in my system and it's perfectly fine.

Sometimes you just have better luck, even with lower quality units. I've seen cheapo chienes units work fine for 7 years. It's the silicone lottery.

Honestly I trust professional reviews from reputable people more then those independent ones, and all the well-known testers say the Raider is a quite an average and mediocre PSU. Voltage regulation isn't great, neither is ripple suppression.

Well I wouldn't explicitly call it "silicon" lottery with PSUs lol

Getting a evga 1300g2 soon probably, probably insane overkill for my system :D

heared its gold rated but it can reach platinum eficiency.

It can hit platinum at some load levels, but at other load levels it just about reaches but not quite, which is why it's rated as gold. It's not really noticeable though and still a very solid PSU
