If you have the parts to utilize the full potential of the 4690K (Z97 board and a half decent CPU cooler), get the 4690K.

If not, then there's absolutely nothing wrong with the 4440, or 4460

although the 4690K will probably serve you for longer as you can make it faster (by getting a better cooler later down the line)

I5 4690k = Overclock

I5 4440 = No Overclock

It's as simple as that

If you're price range is up to a 4690k, then you should consider the Xeon 1231v3. It's basically an i7 w/o the ability to overclock and no integrated gpu. It works in the same motherboards that a 4690k does, performs the same in games as a 4690k does, unless the 4690k is super overclocked, but the xeon performs far, far better in multitasking.

Im building pc and what i should get?

First, what is your total system budget and location (country)?

Second, do you want to be able to overclock?

The 4460 is the newest entry-level i5 and is the one you should be comparing instead of the 4440, but depending on pricing/availability, either one is fine. They will give you about 85-90% of the stock performance of a 4690k, but in gaming, the difference will be negligible. Also, if you want to overclock, you'll need a Z97 motherboard and a decent CPU cooler - both of which can add a considerable amount to the overall cost, which is something to take into account. Is a 7-10% gain in gaming performance worth about $100+ extra just for the ability to overclock? That's up to you.

I have the i5 4690k and it's doing me pretty well, but god do I wish I had gone with the 4790k as it has hyperthreading. My last CPU had hyperthreading, but I did not think it would make a difference. However, a cpu with hyperthreading is something very notable. Loading images and pictures become so much faster with it. If you are just gaming with it you probably wont notice too much of a difference, but if you do other work that involves multitasking lots or imaging then hyperthreading makes a worlds difference.

Why on earth is this in Tech News?

How is this tech news. Seriously. How. Is. This. Tech. News.

My guess would be: people like to post their threads in Tech News regardless since they know it will get a lot more views than somewhere else, even if their thread is completely irrelevant.

That's why my suggestion was to impose a temporary ban when users are looking like they are misusing the news section of the forum.
