Sell my GTX 970 SLI and get a 980Ti?

danialzaidi

So as the title said, should I sell both of my 970's and get a new 980Ti? Would it be worth it?

The current market price for used 970 in my country (Malaysia) is around 240USD - 260USD and a brand new 980Ti will cost around 710USD.

I am currently gaming with 1080p, I was thinking about getting the 980Ti because of the amount of Vram it has compared to my 970's and maybe I can SLI the 980Ti later in the future.

My Current Specs:

i7 4770K

GTX 970 SLI
Corsair Vengeance 8GB x2

Asrock Z97 Extreme4

Cooler Master V750 80+ Gold

1Tb HDD WD Blue

Custom Loop Water Cooling for CPU + GPU + GPU

Thank you in advance and sorry for my bad English.

Forgive me if my English is bad!

Ehhh... 970 SLI and 980 ti is the exact same performance. So if it doesn't cost you anything yes. Or if you want to use less power and not have to deal with SLI then yes.

I say keep the 970s since you'll only be playing at 1080p. The 980ti is made for 1080p+ gaming so it would be pointless. Plus 2 cards in sli looks better than 1.

Not a whole lot of games are optimized for Dual SLI yet alone a Triple

At 1080p? No... Unless you're annoyed with SLI issues.

keep your sli, it will outperform a 980 ti

consider upgrading, when you get  a much worse performance than you should be due to the Vram

He's talking about selling his SLI 970s and getting a single 980 ti. Not doing 3 way SLI. Plus most modern games are setup for SLI. Just go to geforce's website and check out the games that support SLI, there are a ton of them.

1080p scaling for 970 sli still kinda saucks :P

ofc upgrading is stupid, in  my opinion 970 sli should be used for 1440p

I'll be running dual 970s in SLI at 1080p but I'll be running a 144hz monitor. If he's only at 60hz then I'd agree, a single 970 would be fine.

I just see a lot of tech guys on YouTube recommend the 970 for 1080p gaming, dual 970s for 1080p 144hz gaming, then the 980 and 980 ti for 1440p or higher

Actually now I'm wondering if I should buy a 980 ti or SLI 970s. I mainly play at 1080p but may want to step up to 1440p one day

970 SLI and 980 Ti perform the same. You wouldn't be gaining anything by moving from one to the other.

I sold my SLI 970 WFs because of a stutter issue @ 1440p.

Sell 970 SLI, buy 390 CF

why?

CF > SLI

390 > 970

AMD > Nvidia --- at higher resolutions with "lower" cards

????

Profit

I was thinking of going with a 980ti since I can buy a second one when I decide to go with 1440p 144hz gaming, although now I'm considering just getting one 970 and stick to 1080p 144hz gaming, then when it starts to show that it can't handle everything maxed out I'll grab a second one and run SLI.

I'd like to go to 1440p 144hz gaming but can't bring myself to spend $700+ on a monitor.

Keep your 970 SLI config. Do the next upgrade in two years when 4k gaming is (hopefully) affordable.

I don't think you understood what I said. The FPS was fine. But I was having STUTTER issues.

I didn't want stuttering, so I returned them. Simple as that.

970 overclocked = 390X.

970 SLI stock = 980 Ti

Best case scenario you're advising OP to exchange what they have for something identical by AMD. Beyond fanboy flag-waving there's no reason to do this.

OP, if you are wanting to replace your 970 SLI with one 980 Ti then there is no point. If you want more performance than what you already have, however, and want two 980 Tis then that's a sensible reason to upgrade.

Affordable is a relative term but £400 for a monitor and £500 for GPU(s) is pretty good imo. I've considered 4K to be affordable since October, and it's been doable since the original Titan was released.
