Is my pc build correct and balanced

Go to solution Solved by stconquest,

@Ethan supabass

I made a small mistake on the motherboard.  It was fine, but was missing one thing:  a USB 3.0 header.  You could use it, but the front USB 3.0 port on the case will not be USB 3.0 compliant.

I switched it up a bit.

Well, you need to get a cheaper GPU to get to $1K, like a GTX 970 or an R9 290/x. Also, never use AMD for gaming, they're okay, but an i5 will be way better in terms of gaming performance.

Drop the 980 to a 970, and switch out the CPU and motherboard for an i5-4690, i5-4690k if you want to try overclocking. And any motherboard that is Z87, or Z97.

Guys!! The i5 4460 is not much more and maybe less that that amd cpu. Get the 4460 and an lga 1150 mobo and keep it the same price.

Just because you don't care, doesn't mean other others don't. Don't be a self-centered asshole. -Thank You a PSA from the people who do not say random shit on the internet.

Points in agreement with folks in this thread:

-You really need to reconsider the AMD CPU. It is simply not enough for the GPU you are selecting or most modern games. That chip would work ok if you were only planing on older games at medium to high settings, but you're selecting a GPU that can push that way further

Points in disagreements with folks in this thread:

-I think that with a 1k budget you should keep the 980. Take The Witcher 3 for example. This is a game that is out right now and even at 1080p the 970 cannot max all settings and achieve 60 FPS, the game is simply too demanding already for that card with Hairworks enabled even at 1080p. Most will say that a 980 it's overkill for 1080p but it wouldn't surprise me that a year from now most games would be on the level of Witcher 3 and henceforth the card would be a lot better than the 970 in the long run.

Important point:

-You can always save some money and build a solid 800 to 900 system with the 970 now but leave yourself open for a second 970 SLI down the line. That's a more sensible choice if you can't make an i5 and a 980 work in your budget (and it would be tricky to be honest)

Minor point:

I don't really like that case and it's expensive, this one is cheaper and looks better imho the NZXT S340:

Well, at first I forgot the monitor...

So, this is a bit... interesting, let's put it that way.
The point behind that build is, that you overclock the shit out of that little CPU.
It's enough for most games right now and in the future you can upgrade to an i5/i7.
The R9 290X from Sapphire delivers definitly enough performance for any game right now at 1080p, and there was even enough money left to squeeze your monitor into the build.

BUT... The CPU is only a dual core. It does definitly not deliver the same performance as an i5. Even overclocked you'll have problems running too many programs. If you keep your harddrive clean from junk and overclock it to the max, you'll get at least a really good gaming performance out of it.

100% guarantee that the kid is now confused.   G3258, build in GBP.  Go for a 980, don't go for a 980.

He needs Windows (f*ck your redit bullshit), and a monitor in a $1000 build (USD).

It is what will work.  It has everything you need.  The reason it is cheap is that it is an entry level 1150 motherboard.  There is nothing fancy about it.
