No, it will not bottleneck.

the i7 4790K will not bottleneck any gpu out there at this point in time, and I'd guess it will stay that way for at least 2 years.

I was a bit afraid since everyone including Linus seemed to be using a X99 based build. No one seemed to be going Z97. Anyways thank you!!! :)

Linus just does this for all setups to alleviate possible bottlenecks with multiple card setups (like quad GTX TITAN Xs or something of the sort.)

No problem! You'll have a 1440p setup for sure.

What resolution? Your 4790k may bottleneck it at 1080p.

4-way SLI WILL bottleneck a 4790k lol.. Look at JayzTwoCents recent skunkworks video. The 5960k is bottleneck his 3-way SLI Titan Xs and was talking about how his 980 setup was almost bottlenecking it.

Conveniently avoiding the resolution?

Skunkworks is the definition of overkill, since JayZ plays at 1440p.

Well Linus is quite well known for going overkill. So I suppose it makes sense.

To be honest Haswell performs better by a very small margin since it has higher clock speeds than Haswell - E.
