Google Chrome crashing 352.86 (Witcher 3) Nvidia drivers

So because it's monday, everything is going to hell:

Earlier today I updated my Nvidia GTX 780 drivers through Gefore Experience. Everything was going fine and dandy until the driver installation was ready. Suddenly I could move my mouse etc. but not interact with my desktop properly, nothing was opening, couldn't open task manager.. Nothing. I waited for 15-20 minutes for it to solve itself but nothing happened, so I had to do a hard reset.

After that I launched Chrome, opened up a few tabs and boom, Windows 7 says that my display adapter crashed and reseted succesfully. Then it did it again, and again..

I tried reinstalling the drivers by simply downloading the driver package from Nvidia's website directly, and not through Geforce Experience. Then I played some ESO for an hour or two, which ran flawlessly with max graphics.

Then I open Chrome again, and after some browsing the display driver crashes again. I disabled hardware acceleration and so far it hasn't been crashing..

I have no idea what's going on here, and I hope it won't crash again. I'll update this post if it does, even with hardware acceleration off.

Edit: Clean installation may help to this problem.

why not just revert to the older drivers you were using...

Probably because he wants to play Witcher 3?

Can't, it's grayed out in Device Manager.

That's not how you reverts drivers...

You download the older version of drivers from the nvidia website

Then you uninstall your current display drivers from control panel programs

Then you restart

Then you install the new drivers from the file you download from the nvidia website

Then you restart again

Then you install all windows updates and everything will work

I'm having the exact same issue with my 970. Display driver seems to crash randomly while using Chrome. It doesn't appear to happen while gaming though. I've tried a clean install via both the drivers and DDU, which didn't fix it sadly. For now I've reverted back to 350.12.

And why do you need a new driver to play witcher 3?

The game works on any driver version.

The game also works on integrated graphics, that doesn't mean I'm gonna take out my dedicated graphics card to intentionally make my experience with it worse.

I never told him to take out graphics card out and use integrated graphics.

I told him to revert to older drivers that did not have this issue so that he can actually play the game. That's how you fix GPU driver problems, you revert to an older version that works until the bug is fixed. Simple. No need to remove any graphics cards.

I think the latest drivers are horribly broken. I updated from the GTA V WHQL drivers (350 something) to see if my driver crashes would stop, but made everything worse. Now I'm struggling to get my primary monitor to work via DP.

Yea, I'd stick it out and wait for a new driver to quickly fix this, but Nvidia doesn't listen to their customers so if I did that I'd have to deal with hard resetting my PC every 5 minutes of YouTube and Twitch use.

It only took hundreds of thousands of views and hundreds/thousands of posts about the 3.5gb thing to get a response from an Nvidia employee on that.

Such a garbage company really, maybe don't spend all your money making cloud gaming that nobody wants because it's terrible and invest that in customer service instead.

i have the same drivers, using the same browser and have a 970 as well and i have no issues. this kind of issue isn't easy to fix since it isn't easily reproducible. i'm not saying that you're doing something wrong or that there isn't an issue somewhere with the driver. it could be a lot of things and is definitely an interaction between 2 or more pieces of hardware/software. if it was just the drivers not playing nice with chrome, i'd have the issues too.

definitely a frustrating issue to have though. hopefully they release a fix soon.

I'm going to try disabling hardware acceleration.

This issue is everywhere, GeForce forums are plagued by it. Just google it, it's ridiculous how many people are getting wrecked by this driver update.

Nvidia will just ignore or deny the issue exists and fix it months from now when it's good for them.

Nope, Chrome stills crashes and I have to force my PC off with the power button.

Never crashes in games or other programs.

Cute.

Thanks Nvidia

Edit: Looks like Hardware Acceleration reenabled itself somehow... maybe this is fixable after all without having to roll back drivers.

Same exact issue here.  Only cropped up at 352.86

Windows 7 64-bit

Chrome Version 44.0.2403.9 dev-m (64-bit) (see below)

Nvidia Driver 352.86

X99 5820k

2x 970 (doesn't matter whether SLI set to enabled or disabled)

3x monitor

Happens about once or twice a day (usually when scrolling or switching tabs).  The watchdog always catches it and resets the driver.
