Running low on storage...what drive should I get?

TechSilver13

I have two 2TB Western Digital Red drives right now.  One has my games on it a and the other has my media on it.  Both have about 350GB left and I am looking to upgrade.  I was looking at 4TB Red or Black drives.  I saw a 6TB HGST drive (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822145973) but I am scared to get such a large drive because I have heard the failure rate of larger drives is typically worse than a smaller drive (maybe there is no truth to that).  Any way, what do you guys recommend I get?

I'd trust HGST with their drives. It was the 3TB drives that were particularly sketchy.

Sig under construction.

I'd still prefer WD / Seagate for my Storage solutions.

I'd go for two 3TB WD Blacks in RAID 0 for 6TB. Or just one 6TB.

Hey TechSilver13,

Larger drives tend to work faster due to the higher data density. You would, though lose everything on the drive in case of failure (compared to having data on multiple smaller drives). I have always preferred to have multiple smaller drives than one larger one.
WD Red drives are great NAS/RAID class drives tha work on regular systems as well. They work cool, quiet and save energy.
WD Black drives are designed for performance, durability and heavier and longer workloads.
Depends on what you are planning to do with those drives, either option can be good. :)

Just a small note, HGST is the former Hitachi company. :)
