R9 280x - Which brand would you buy?

Hey guys,

In a few days I'll be purchasing myself a new graphics card; R9 280x. Can you guys give me your opinion on which brand of R9 280x is most reliable, best performance, cooling, etc....

Thanks in advance!

John.

Pretty sure Sapphire's and Gigabyte's cards are good.

MSI is decent too.

Not sure about Asus and I'm pretty sure XFX is alright.

I read in few forums when I was going to buy it that some these cards had artifact and flicker problems(long time back). Any idea what the cause was(driver, hardware etc)?

I would buy Nvidia :Dsorry, had to

But as @Minibois said, Sapphire or Gigabyte

Yeah I would too, but apparently an R9 280x is on par with a GTX 960 and 970 supposedly

Sometimes GPU's just artefacts. It happens.

Sometimes it's because  of an OC, but you really can't say one GPU artefacts more than the other.

I have not heard about this problem with a lot of 280X cards

280X is on par and sometimes beats the GTX 960 and the GTX 970 is better than the 280X.

The GTX 970 is about on level with a 290X (they trade blows)

Avoid the Rev 1.0 batch of 280x from Gigabyte. They have been known to give problems. I don't think the rev 1 cards are in production anymore.

Here are the reviews and noise comparison for most of the aftermarket 280x. http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/radeon-r9-280x-third-party-round-up,3655.html

Happened on my XFX 280X, all it needs is a BIOS update which you can send a support ticket to the manufacturer for or look in the techpowerup VBIOS database and see if your card has a newer driver.

As an owner of the sapphire r9 280x toxic i recommend you take the gigabyte version not that the sapphire version has something bad but is bit louder than every other version. The msi has some great coolers too.If you dont get bothered by the extra noise get the sapphire whatever version you find.

sapphire is the go to brand. I have an asus and it has worked beautifully though (though there were reports of artifacting, but i havent seen any in 2 years)

Sapphire and MSI are usually the better Radeon cards to buy from what I've heard.

Sapphire does really good on their cooling for the cards. If you are concerned about the heat produced by the cards. The only con is their cards are really bulky and take up a fair amount of space. XFX I have heard that they are not the best with cooling the cards.
