What is your go-to ssd for a new build?

keroro185

Opinions and reasons would be nice.

Side question: Any news on any new SSDs to be released in the near future?

840 pro if you can afford it, 840 basic if not.

If you need space maybe Crucial M500, they got a 960GB one.

PS. i'm personally thinking about getting 2x 256/512 GB 840 Pro and Raid 0 them.

Plextor M5P as it's dirt cheap where I live. If it's not in stock I'll go with the Samsung 840 or a Plextor M5S.

I have an Intel 330 and it's awesome, except for the fact that the finish on it looks terrible.

Yeah that is true, just for my more expensive choice I would of gone with something like an 840 pro and since samsung is also in the same situation of making their SSD's from scratch.

Samsung 840, because it's reliable, fast, reliable again and will last for ages.

Pretty Interesting replies. Everyone here seems to favour the Samsung 840 (pro)/(non pro).

Was there a reason you guys didn't choose equally as competitive SSDs such as the Corsair Neutron series and OCZ Vector?

Corsair SSds suck

OCZ SSDs are decent but you can get better for the money

Most SSDs these day use Samsung components among others, so why not go to the source and get one built entirely by Samsung rather than one outsourced to half a dozen different companies?

Samsung 840 nonpro offers a few pros and cons

Pros:

Price

Fast read speed

Reliability (Custom controller/firmware)

Warranty

Cons:

Slow write speed

TLC (Dies quicker)

They still are awesome as you can find them generally around 90 bucks.

I'd probably lean towards a vector or an 840 pro for a high end build, maybe an m500 for stupid capacity... for a lower end build, maybe an 840 non-pro, plextor m5p or sandisk ultra plus.

From what Linus said on one of his videos is that Plextor manufacturers all SSD chips and companies like Corsair, Samsung, Sandisk, OCZ, etc.... buys them. Plextor is one one of the few companies that make there own chips.

*Note*

This may have changed so keep that in mind.
