780 Ti Having FPS Issues on GTA V

As the title says I'm having some fps issues with my 780 Ti on GTA V. I've seen people who have been able to run all on max with a 970 + i5 so theoretically I should be able to get a similar experience considering the 780 Ti is a stronger(?) card than the 970. I have a feeling that it may be my CPU holding me back but that may just be my imagination. I'll try and include as much helpful information below as I can:

  • GPU has stock cooler
  • +137MHz on Core Clock
  • +150MHz on Memory Clock
  • Max Fan speed + Overvolted through EVGA Precision
  • Never goes above 80% Gpu usage when ingame
  • Monitor Overclocked to 66Hz
  • Drops to 40 FPS while driving and in other areas. Also fluctuates around 50 normally but does have areas where it will stick to 66 for a while. I never notice it going below 40 though.
  • CPU has default overclock to 3.7GHz currently
  • Game is on my HDD
  • If upgrades are needed I've got about ~£200 to spend
  • Normal RAM is freed up I have about 80% total usage when playing
  • GPU Never heats up to a bottleneck point
  • CPU stays at a good temp ~60 Degress Celsius
  • Power usage is normally at 60-70%
  • Windows 8.1
  • Specs should be below but may be slightly outdated for what I am actually using.
  • This has been when playing GTA Online, I haven't tested single player as of yet.

Settings:

  • Ambient Occlusion: High
  • Anisotropic filtering: x16
  • Dx 11
  • Windowed Borderless

  • Population Density: 100%
  • Population Variety: 100%

  • Soft Shadows: Softer
  • Tesselation: High
  • Texture Quality: Very High
  • Water Quality: High
  • VSync: On -Same On or Off
  • MSAA: 2x

I had to turn population density and diversity down to the lowest setting to make it stop maxing out my cpu

I'm running into areas where I get ~25 on a 980 and 4790K....

May be a CPU Bottleneck.

Could definitely be your cpu. I have a 780ti as well and with settings like that, actually a little higher, 2xmsaa my game never drops below 60fps. It will if I enable high resolution shadows though. But even then only sometimes. And 2xmsaa has a big hit in this game for some reason.

Think it was 8x w/ MSAA and TXAA... Probably setting too high expectations.

Msaa in gta5 and max payne totally murders performance. That's why I don't go anywhere above 2 in this game. Got keep dat perfect 60fps.

It does seem to be the main difference between me and the people with similar GPU's. Now that I remember my CPU usage is about 58% on GTA so with it running in 4 Cores(?) would that mean that it is maxing out the CPU it has been given.

It hits around 80% on 4 cores, nevr maxes at 100 with FXAA on

A lot of 970s are having problems too, me included.

The games launcher stays in the background and can rape FPS/Frame times more than neccesary (that's if the launcher is pointless).

Pretty much all you can do is wait for driver and/or performance updates like I have to..

There is a definite correlation with FPS Drops and higher CPU Usage when I am playing. Currently i'm trying some overclocking which seems to be helping it stay above 50 FPS.

Make sure your durable or reduce the "advanced graphics settings"

I hear those settings are meant for very high end rigs and kill performance.

Intel i7 6700k @ 4.8ghz, NZXT Kraken X61, ASUS Z170 Maximus VIII Hero, (2x8GB) Kingston DDR4 2400, 2x Sapphire Nitro Fury OC+, Thermaltake 1050W

I done some changes that I found people mentioning that would fix the issues. Most are gone now mostly stay above 60. Had to change Shadows to High and modify some stuff in the Nvidia Control panel. I did get a nice overclock on my stuff in the process though ;)

By the way, your CPU is the bottleneck here. I have the same GPU, but I'm running a i7 5930K and I can turn the settings up a bit higher than what your reporting, when I tested GTA V at 1080p.

Remember, I am using a stock cooler on mine. So my Overclock is not going to get up as high as yours. I can probably boost some more of my settings up but I don't want to touch them since what I have currently is perfect. Game looks awesome and I'm getting a decent stable fps.

AMD FX-8320 - this is the problem dude, possibly your motherboard too but deffo your fx-8320. Banish and use your spare cash for:

Intel Core i5 4690K 4th Generation Haswell Quad Core Desktop Processor

I have a Ti (running overclocked to 1291MHz on the core and 1851 on the memory) I have a 4770k running at stock 3.5gb. I have everything up at Very High settings including grass, fxaa on with 2 x msaa and 8 x msaa on shadows, running sharp shadows, nothing in advanced is touched. I am getting about 85fps in the city and 60-70fps in the countryside and desert.

I've been able to scrape a bit more money together, do you have a solid recommendation for an i7 such as an 4790K and a solid motherboard for about ~£340 all together maybe with a CPU cooler aswell.

timeout 30Try This for a fix

1)Delete your nvidia drivers using DDU software from 3dguru and try re installing the nvidia game ready drivers.(Try using a clean installation)

2)Increase the amount of virtual ram of your system (Only the recommended amount)

NOTE- Do not use virtual ram from the OS installed partition ©

3)Try installing a software called cache booster

4)Open a txt file and write this code- timeout 60

MSAA is hard for my AMD GPU - could be also a hard task for nVidia...

You are allowed to have animated avatars on LTT, but - try to have images like "userbars" in the signature - no chance...

Excels last cell is XFD1048576 and once was IV65536.

(if you want to have the most effective mousepad - use a colored matte floor tile)

I'm running SLI 780Ti's and everything to the max, except msaa, never dips below the 50's and rund 60-70fps all the time 5760x1080 with a 9590... cpu shows no bottleneck, not even close to one..
