good luck charging a ~9000mah battery with 1a 5v in a timely fashion.

One time I overheard my idiot classmates talking about the XBONE and they were talking about how it had 1 TB storage and that was crazy, then one of then said that the best Gaming PC only has 64 GB. I was infuriated.

A friend of mine just said: The xbox scorpio is more powerful than my gtx 1070. it has 6 tflops! for what reason should anyone buy a pc ever again?

It probably will be as good as a GTX 1070 at a minimum. IDK if you know the specs.

I said: because consoles use amd gpus, and the flops of these are better than the the results of nvidia gpus! but the graphics power per flop is way weaker. this is only the power of an overclocked rx 480 aka rx 580!

This is technically incorrect.

How would it be as good as a 1070? 6 tflops is like an rx 480 plus 5-10%, which is not above a 1070.

theoretical performance != real world performance. You can't compare theoretical performance across architectures.

While the Scorpio GPU may be a derivative of the Polaris Architecture, the GPU itself is highly customized and optimized.

The Xbox Scorpio has been tested by Microsoft in Forza and they were able to get similar results to a GTX 1070.

In other games where no direct comparison is viable, the Scorpio GPU managed 4K 60fps at Xbox One Texture Quality whilst leaving potentially around 30-40% of GPU utilization on the table.

Forza is only one game though, and probably one of the ones that works better.

We need to wait to see for sure, but I doubt it would be on par with a 1070, personally.

An RX 480 can hit 6TFlops at the reference boost clock, the referenc3 GTX 1070's base speed equates to 6.5 or so. On a level playing field, it's not far behind.

But comparing, spec for spec, a console vs a PC is not a level playong field. With Scorpio's release, there will only be two sets of hardware to optimize for, One and Scorpio, and 90% of optimization work applied to one is applied to the other, since they're running hardware that is extremely close togetjer in design.

With a PC, on the other hand, you can have thousands of combinations and can only optimize for so many of them. That's the big reason the RX480 sees the same gaming performance as the 1060, it's not well optimized for.

I can see the Scorpio being able to push the same, or slightly better results than the 1070. If the TFlops number is just GPU horsepower.

When performance outside of gaming matches with the TFlops, regardless of architectures, you can.

Only in gaming does your statement hold much truth, and mainly for the fact that GCN wasn't lucrative enough to take advantage of in games, as it required additional work by developers, for the less popular choice of cards.

And the Scorpio is for gaming...

Even for compute you can't do that. There ar either optimizations that need to be made such as getting the scheduler to feed the cores or reducing number of cycles required to complete certain operations, not to mention stuff like FP16 and FP64.

If it was all about number of cores and optimizing for them amd wouldn't have switched to gcn from vliw. GCN is much better for compute just because of how the cores are structured.

There was that one time my cousin told me his Macbook Pro (early 2011) could beat my PC (in sig) hands down.. And that Adobe just "works" with Mac better, because they "use Macs in Hollywood". CRINGE.... Or when I got 8GB of RAM he told me his iMac had 1TB... Or that time when he said "all professionals use Mac, it's just a fact"... Or any time I bring up specs he brushes it off and says "it doesn't matter, if that mattered then why do they use Macs in Hollywood?". The guy's incredibly smart and talented, but when it comes to tech... Yeah... Nowadays I don't even correct him, I just kinda smile and nod, or change the subject.

I spent $2500 on building my PC and all i do with it is play no games atm & watch anime at 1080p(finally) watch YT and write essays...  nothing, it just sits there collecting dust...
