Is the Asus ASUS H97-PRO GAMER any good?

Go to solution Solved by TheSLSAMG,

Would it be worth it to get this instead? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813132412&cm_re=Asus_z97-_-13-132-412-_-ProductIt's the Z97 version of this board.

Are you buying a second GTX 970? If not, probably not for that much extra. ($35) If so, yes.

Wanting to use this board for my first build, I'll be using a i5 4690k and an Asus Strix 970. Do you guys recommend this motherboard?

It's a solid unit, I'd pick it up.

Before anyone asks, it can OC fine and isn't really gimped compared to the Z-series model.

Get a Z97 board.

If this board costs less, there's no reason for a Z-series board. This board does everything a Z-series board does, including OC. The only thing missing is SLI.

If you're getting an unlocked CPU (assuming you're overclocking..) you need a z97 board.

Did you already get the CPU?

Yeah. Plenty of the H-series boards can OC. Wonder why there are gaming-oriented boards in the H-series chipset? Because manufacturers made H97 boards overclock. I think it's through a microcode exploit.

I don't plan to buy another 970 any time soon. I'll get the H97. Thanks for the response!
