Introduction:

Hey guys and welcome to the Build Log Thread for my new project, "Project Served". This build will be a fully custom server rack that will be able to hold three or four motherboards that are running various servers doing different functions. All the parts will be parts that are found around my house. (I have a lot, since I come from a technologically advanced family) ;)

Purpose:

-Hold Multiple Servers

-Hold multiple PSUs

-Cable routing options through the legs

Servers:

-Home Media and Backup Server

-Game Server (Either Minecraft or RSPS)

-Web Server (This one is Priority)

To-Do list:

-Test all 3 motherboards

-Install Linux on Motherboard 1&2

-Install Serviio on Motherboard 3

-Order Parts

Components:

MOTHERBOARD 1 (Game Server):

-Asus P4P800 se Motherboard (ATX)

-Intel Pentium 4 CPU

-Graphics Card UNKNOWN (Soon to be Updated)

To-Do For tomorrow:

-Test Mobos

Day Two:

Okay, so I have bought my domain for my site that I was going to host on Motherboard 3, I say "was" because im going to host it at either GoDaddy or HostGator.

I also realized I forgot some things in my plan I posted yesterday, so here that is:

rpycRWa.jpg

I also tested Motherboard Three, I cant test the other two because I dont have a HDD to use with them.

To-Do For tomorrow:

-Test Motherboard 1 & 2

Day Three:

Well, I ran into a problem, You can probably see that motherboard 3 (That is now the Home server) has its own 80w powersupply, and the powersupply that I was using test the other 2 motherboards was supposed to be fine. I just found out (While testing #1&2) That PSU is busted! So now ive got to get a new PSU :(

Anyways, here are the pictures from today.

Are you going to be using standard 19" racks. I am a bit confused by this build log if I am honest.

You can fit 3 full height 2 slot GPUs in one server though. Would this system conform to that specification or is it of your own design.

Oh wow that is going to be quite a job then. I wish you all the best of luck with it. Personally I just stick to 19 inch racks for my music and computer rack mount stuff. I find it so much easier personally.

This is the case I use for my Folding@Home server. In that Server I have an AMD Phenom II 1035T from a Prebuilt HP and a 7970 for folding. I also use it for Tekkit Servers and download server when I turn my main desktop off as it just downloads to my NAS through the server. This server case fits in the industry standard rack system. This is 19 inches wide and you can fit everything into these racks from GPU and 4P servers to Network Switches and Fibre and CAT5e/CAT6 patch panels to amplifiers for PA Speakers and Storage Servers and just everything in between.

Look at this page. http://www.scan.co.uk/shop/computer-hardware/all/cases/rackmount-cases

Rackmount Cases for standard motherboards sizes go up to 12 by 13 inches I believe which is for dual xeon gpu servers mainly. I may get one for F@H
