Welcome to the forum! Your build looks pretty good, however I recommend you go with a 760 instead of a 660.

It doesn't cost much more, if you want to maintain the budget you can get this PSU instead:

@Johnnyboy519

go down to a 650 watt or 550 watt power supply.

go for a hyper 212 evo instead of case fans.

try for some cheaper SSD like an ADATA SP900.

I would assume you'd have more money left since your build totaled to $1311,so if you want to spend a bit more consider going for a GTX 770 or a HD 7970.

thanks, I wasn't sure if 600w could run it all. That's why I went overkill with 750W psu.

the i5 is the recommended CPU for Gaming why would he not need it?

This.

I own the 3570k. It's *the* CPU for gaming. :P

that's arguable, the FX 8320 is just about as good for gaming.

and even on the intel side the 4670K is now *the* cpu for gaming.

Well it's not exactly overkill, it's perfect if you plan on adding another card in the future or something. However a 600w should handle it just fine ;)

Not really.

If we are strictly talking about gaming ability, ignoring all other aspects, the FX 8320, 4670k, and 3570k are all neck and neck.

Start factoring in other aspects and the FX 8320 loses due to heat imo and that games will not utilize it fully.

The 4670k and 3570k aren't any different, gaming wise. $30 difference.

well considering that a 650 watt power supply could easily handle sli 660's it kind of is overkill.

they aren't but he said "recommended",and going for a dead socket is hardly recommended.

and as for heat, Haswell isn't exactly a snow fairy either.

personally I can see the FX 8320's other cores being great for light rendering.

for example.

playing on 4 of the cores while waiting for a render to finish on the other 4 by allocating certain cores to certain applications.

you'd have a great experience.

same would go for general multi-tasking and streaming/recording gameplay.

I don't think that'd work out well as the CPU has shared Memory caches. Not sure if that would actually bottleneck it, but I imagine it's possible.

aren't they shared between each core in a module?

the way I understood it,and I'm really bad at understanding architectures,is that each module contained two 128-bit execution cores.

so the way I figured you could allocate 2 modules  (4 threads) to rendering and the other 2 modules (4 threads) to gaming.

and since you dedicate the entire modules to the task the shared memory shouldn't impact performance negatively.

nope...just checked

BDArch.png

turns out that I was right for the L2 memory but for the L3 it's shared between all 4 modules like you said.

Yes, that's what I was thinking. That there were 3 levels of memory and at least 1 was shared by every core.

Not sure how that'd effect performance as I don't understand how CPU memory works, but it could.

What's your budget?

I wanted to get the asus sabertooth z77 lga 1155 Mobo but like every single Mobo I've read on Newegg
I get thrown off by the bad reviews. Any idea which Mobo I should get that is efficient and will last a while?

Just about any z77 board will do.
