A seller I follow has a TON of off-lease PC's they sell.  They had a bunch of Optiplex 760's w/ Core 2 duo E8500, 4GB DDR2 800MHz, 500GB HD.  Snagged one for 98 bucks.  Toss in a Radeon HD 7750 for 70 bucks and my friend has a gaming PC for 170 bucks.  I had a choice, a Phenom x4 9600B or an E8500.  I've used an E8400 and it's still a solid CPU, but the only 2 AMD's that were worth a crap to me was the II x3 740 and FX-4300.  Was afraid to try an older phenom despite it being a quad core.

Specs: Core I7-2600K @ 4.5GHz @ 1.35V, 4x4GB Corsair Vengeance Black 1600MHz CL9, Cooler Master Evo 212, MSI Z77 Mpower Motherboard, Sapphire Radeon HD 7950 Vapor-X @ 1000/1400, Cooler Master HAF 932 Blue Edition w/ 3 Cougar Hydraulic Bearing 120MM fans (2 up top 1 in the bottom) replaced side panel with a window, and rear fan with a Cougar Hydraulic Bearing 140MM, Cooler Master GX 650 80+ Bronze PSU, Samsung DVD-RW, Samsung 840 Pro 128GB SSD, Seagate 750GB SATA III 7200RPM

What about the PSU in those OptiPlex's, if I remember correctly they aren't much over 200w and generally cheap generic crap, I was thinking of buying one a while ago before putting the money into the desktop.

I got the "mini" tower one I guess.  Judging by the pics.

305w is still pretty low even for a 7750, if it's high quality then fair enough but I don't think they are.

I could be wrong though

Pretty good deal, but you seem to have a quite loose definition of "gamer pc". :)

For someone that has 200 to spend, meh ya.

Pretty sure HD 7750s don't use auxiliary power, they draw everything through the PCI-E socket (up to 75W).

AMD recommends a minimum rating of 400w, I know that is them being safe but on a cheap PSU as well but hey it's not my money so disregard my posts :P

Ya the E8500 is about 65W and an HD 7750 cannot draw more than 75W.  So Unless I run 10 HD's 12 LED fans and 6 optical drives all running at once I think it should be okay.  The big thing is, how many Amps on the 12V rail are there?

That is a build that "requires" 450W. i7 4770K, GTX 770, 16GB RAM, multiple storage devices, sound card.

An E8400 Core2Duo has a max TDP of 66W, maybe 80 if you OC it to 3.8-4.0 GHz. Add 40 for the chipset, 75 for the GPU, 5 for an HDD you get 186W total. A single 15A 12V rail would be enough to power that.

Not a clue, I could touch it and possibly get a reading that way :P

I couldn't imagine, for me at least, spending $200 on a 760 instead of a A4-3300 box, especially considering the 760 probably lacks DVI and Gigabit ethernet. If it were me I'd just go with an $235 APU box and save up for a GPU...but thats just me.
