My Computer Won't Turn On.

Go to solution Solved by Jamdude,

I guess my PC was just super dusty.  I cleaned it and now it boots - weird.

I was using my computer when the builders in my house decide to turn the power off to all the socket outlets which shuts off my computer instantly.  The power is back on now and my computer - amongst other things - are plugged in to a surge protector (http://www.amazon.co.uk/Masterplug-SRPC102PB-MS-Surge-Protected-Extension-Protection/dp/B004I5BQ8I/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1372867572&sr=1-1&keywords=10+socket+surge+protector+masterplug) but my computer won't turn on.

Everything else that was on and plugged in works fine but my computer just wont start.  Everything is plugged in, the power supply is on and a green light is lit on my motherboard but when I press the On button nothing happens.  Please help :(

EDIT:  Fans spin up when I clear CMOS but nothing else happens - no display on monitors.  The CPU LED is also lit red.

it could be a fried power supply.

try plugging the pc directly into the socket, see if it turns on.

Plugging it in directly to the socket didn't help and the power supply seems to be giving power as it's lighting the green power LED on the motherboard.

Pull out the power supply(unplug everything from the board and storage drives. All that) and jump it. Get a paperclip and your motherboard power connector(on the PSU). Find the green wire and any black wire. Take your paper clip and put one end into the green wire, and the other end into the black wire. Before you do this, make sure the power supply is unplugged or turned off.

Is this the computer in your signature?

Yes it is.  It only boots when I move the CMOS jumper from pins 1 and 2, to 2 and 3, then back to 1 and 2.

sounds like a fried cpu on the asus sabertooth boards if theres a problem the red led for that part stays lit till the problems sorted though if it was any thing like what happened to my 990fx sabertooth board could be just a corrupt bios could always try flashing the bios and see if that helps

I'll try flashing the BIOS now then.

As James said, re-flash the BIOS before you start RMA'ing anything.

Alright so I've plugged the USB with the BIOS file in to the BIOS USB port and held the BIOS button on the motherboard and now it's lit blue.  I haven't done this before so what should I do next or what should I expect to happen now?

That's not normal. Make sure the CAP file is named properly, and that you've written it to the USB device properly.

What do I need to name the file?  I left it with the same name as I downloaded it which is SABERTOOTH-Z77-ASUS-2003.CAP

The USB is formatted as FAT32.

EDIT: Just found a BIOS re-namer so I'm downloading that to see if it works.

EDIT 2: It renamed the file Z77ST.CAP so I'll see if this one works now.

EDIT 3: Blue BIOS LED is flashing now rather than staying solid so hopefully it'll just take a few minutes and I'll post another update.

The blue BIOS LED stopped flashing so I removed the USB and the computer still wouldn't boot.  The fans only spin up when I move the jumper and the CPU LED is still lit red.

CPU might be dead, or motherboard just isn't working properly.
