Hello!

So, my boot is slower than it should be, I don't like that >: (

t averages around ~45 seconds: http://bldr.no/26X
Those 6 seconds under "Potentially removable" is just the Catalyst Controll Center

have removed everything from boot that can be removed, as I always do

Hardware:

Gigabyte 7970 GHz 1100MHz with newest BIOS (UEFI)
Intel i7-4770k at Stock (for now)
H100i
Kingston HyperX Beast 2x8GB 2400MHz (Set to 1600 in UEFI)
ASUS Z87-DELUXE
OCZ Agility 3 240GB --> ATTO: http://bldr.no/26Y

A friend of mine has quite similar system, only Ivy Bridge, and he has boot <10 secs. Sometimes his monitor is slower to turn on than the computer
(He has 2 GTX 560Ti's in SLI, BIOS never updated on those)

SSD is only disk in POST, and keyboard and mice are only USB connectors in POST
I have googled a bit but not finding any good or clear answers

Any tips?

Have you enabled the windows 8 fast boot option in the bios? I have noticed this in my personal build but don't have windows 8, Just thought i'd let that out there unless you've already tried it

Do you recall what kind of boot times you got when installing Windows for the first time on your SSD (without any programs)? Alternatively, try booting in safe mode. This should give you a general idea of how much time is being taken up loading programs/drivers.

Added an Atto benchmark of the SSD
I am quite sure fast boot is enabled
Though the is one other option "Hardware fast boot" which is disabled and I have not found any info about what that option really is :P
Disabling S.M.A.R.T.? Any negative effects in doing that?

I enabled hardware fast boot now, got two boots with 38 sec total, 22 sec to desktop, for some reason the catalyst controll center is now at < 0.1 sec rather than 5 sec as before

System is still at 20 sec though

Did not see any real difference in boot time when I booted in safe mode

How are you timing this?

So I just grabbed Soluto and tried it. (i7:2600k@4.8, Samsung 830 256GB, gtx 680)

Here's what I got: Soluto vs Stopwatch

stopwatch:
00:00:00 : cold boot: 0:00
00:03.90 : gpu: 3.90
00:08.86 : bios: 4.96
00:28.36 : desktop: 19.49

01:15.60 : Soluto finishes (Soluto shows the activity on corner of screen):

Soluto: "boot takes 0:46 , desktop was responsive after 28sec"

post-7162-0-75215200-1373460939.jpg

[stopwatch time]75sec - [soluto's after-desktop services time]28sec = 47sec

So maybe I'm missing something, but not sure when Soluto considers boot to desktop.

My system install is over a year old, and win7 instead of win8, but I can tell you one thing...If I remove the antivirus, the I get the "see the desktop before welcome screen" fast again.

I wonder if there's a thread where people post their boot videos

edit: added screenshot of soluto stats
