hi guys, im thinking about overclocking the haswell i5 4670k, hope to get between 4.4-4.6Ghz. Its my first time overclocking and could use any info anyone has i.e. what settings/configuration you have used with the same processor etc.  Just another quick mention, my idol temps are between 25-33 degrees Celsius, and thit ranged from 51-61 under 100% load after 5minutes, i personally thought this is high considering that im using the h100i, does anyone have any temps to compare to?

My current build is:

-z87 Sabertooth

-i5 4670k

-corsair H100i

-8GB vengeance 1866Mhz ram

-HX850 psu

- (if it matters) corsair c70 case

also, im currently using the integrated graphics on the cpu, hoping to get the gtx 780 in the future

any feedback will be mucho appreciated XD

Those temps are completely normal, especially since you're using the integrated graphics.

I recommend you watch Linus' haswell overclocking guide:

Could i use the same settings as linus, even though he's using the i7 4770k? Thankss

No, you might be able to use the same settings but every chip is a bit different. Play around and see what your chip can do. There's already a hundred how to guides for Haswell, go read them all for different ideas on how to get the most out of overclocking.

Yes you can use any Haswell oc guide for any Haswell K chip, they are the same chips just with features enabled or disabled.

If you're inexperienced @ overclocking just use the Asus 4-way optimization tool. It works great and is very easy to use.

Heres a video explaining everything:

If you're running onboard graphics however you have to keep in mind that your cpu will run a little bit hotter than with a dedicated gpu.

Idle should be close to or just above ambient temp . Do not use prime95 to stabilty test.

Use the intel extreme tuning utility

What would you guys think the idle and max temp should be for an overclock of 4.4Ghz running prime95 ?

First don't use prime95 for your Haswell cpu, go and download Aida64 its better for the haswell chip set.

I have the 4670k cpu and have the h100i water cooling kit too, my temps are about the same as yours at OC speeds of 4.4ghz, try to start your voltage to about 1.2 at 4.4ghz and see if it boots up to windows (or what ever OS you use), if not change the voltage up by a small number like .025 at a time till it boots up and run AIDA64 extreme and select system stability test under the tools menu, and see how it runs.

make sure corsair link 2 is running and your fan's are set-up for good cooling as it will get hot through the test and remember keep on your temps for your gpu as well as your cpu.

Cry Havoc!

I am a first time builder and overclocker. I currently have an i7 4660K and H100i. Should I plug in my NF-F12's to the H100i Pump/Block through Corsair Link or the MoBo CPU fan headers?

plug into the pump block. use corsair link.

Its better. you can monitor all your vitals through corsair link rather than relying on your motherboard utility to monitor or make adjustments. fan speeds pump speed etc. your fans will also throttle up and down with the pump speed, properly

What seems to work was as you said have the core voltage at 1.2. Changed it to adaptive with the max being 1.2. Average temps at idle ranged from 27-35 with the occasional spike to 40. Been running aida 64 from almos 30minutes (would u think this is long enough?). Average temps range from 57-64. Would you think im pushing it, to go up to 4.5. Seeing as im using integrated graphics? 4.5 sounds better than 4.4 :D

run  Aida64 for a minimum of 8 hours! or more

the last thing you want is instability.

validate your overclock, minimum 8 hours stress testing required.

What is the maximum heat you can have without hurting your processor(4670K)?

80c-85c is what is recommended for Max load temps.

the cpu may throttle if it hits 94c or higher...you never want it to throttle down.

61C is actually a very decent temperature for a 4.6Ghz overclock, considering I'm at roughly 60C with 1.2V and an air cooler. However I would stress test it using Aida64 and Prime95 together to see the temperatures under a completely artificial load. If they are below say 85C you should be fine.
