hello all. im thinking about buying an LSI 9260-8i and i was wondering if it supports the configuration that i want to do. i wan to do 4 ssd's in raid 0 for the os and some games and apps, 2 hdd's in raid 0 for mass storage for movies and other games and such, and 2 more hdd's to back everything up. any advice would be greatly apreciated on how do set somthing like this up or if there is another way. thanks!

While I do believe that would work, I would strongly advise against it. You'd do better with 4SSD's in raid 0 and 4 HDD's in raid 5 or 6 for storing media and backing up. Having separate arrays on the same machine for storing stuff and backing up doesn't gain you anything, you'd be better suited with 4xHDDs.

If you want more safety than that, get an external drive, nas, or file server.

Also, what size/type of drives do you plan to use?

Workstation: 3930k @ 4.3GHz under an H100 - 4x8GB ram - infiniband HCA  - xonar essence stx - gtx 680 - sabretooth x79 - corsair C70 Server: i7 3770k (don't ask) - lsi-9260-4i used as an HBA - 6x3TB WD red (raidz2) - crucia m4's (60gb (ZIL, L2ARC), 120gb (OS)) - 4X8GB ram - infiniband HCA - define mini  Goodies: Røde podcaster w/ boom & shock mount - 3x1080p ips panels (NEC monitors for life) - k90 - g9x - sp2500's - HD598's - kvm switch
