so this cop in the us shot a dog dead becouse he was rushing to his owners aid.

In all honesty if I was on my own and had a dog the same weight as me of a breed like that randomly attack me I would probably do the same, but in a group of people, and the fact that the dog was being defensive, no f*cking way. Dogs breeds that tend to be more aggressive are known to severely injure and even kill people, but given the circumstances that was absolutely unnecessary.

they have tasers and pepper spray

guns are supposed to be their last line of defense but they showed it was their first reaction

The owner of the dog was telling the dog to calm down, the other officers realized this. The officer that shot the dog provoked the dog by going up close to it with a gun in his hands.

It doesn't, but it makes it a hell of a lot more likely, especially at that size.

If I was him I would have shot too,  The reason they are armed is to protect themselves.  Regardless of what the owner was saying to the dog it was attacking.  Words mean nothing when you have to defend yourself, you can only trust your instincts in this situation and I reckon American cops probably have good survival instincts, they need them in their job.

That cop was well within his right to shoot the dog. If you didn't notice that wasn't just a few cop cas just parked - there's a SWAT van over the back. The guy was obviously not meant to be walking over there filming and getting involved. I too would have shot the dog if it was coming charging at me.

He obviously saw something threatening, already has his gun out (they were in the middle of something quite major).  It looked pretty threatening to me.

Next time you see 50kg rottweiler in a yard go up to it  and slap it across the a few times and then let it run after you. Then you might change your mind.

Never tried this before...but my dad told me in his army training, if a dog comes at you, just punch his nose. The gun was such an overkill.

Huge overreaction in this situation and  there is no debate about it. I've been bitten numerous times and never once have i pulled my side arm first. Trigger happy cop going for option 4 right off the bat.
