Witcher 3 to have mature content

The Guardian reports that the Witcher 3: Wild Hunt contains 16 hours  of sex scene motion capture data.
 
 

"People might think we're putting sex into the opening scene for no good reason," explains senior game designer Damien Monhier. "No, no, no. We are establishing that your character was intimate with this woman recently in order to plant in your mind that, at very least, he must enjoy her company." In subsequent moments we see the pair gently flirt in an atmosphere of easy-going post-coital familiarity. Their secrets have been spilled and now, as she freshens at the mirror and he tousles her hair, a deeper affection between the characters is established.

 
 

"Sex is the quickest way in which to establish the relationship and provide a justification for the player to pursue this woman," he continues. "We couldn't just tell you to go find someone you don't know or care about. It wouldn't work."

I still don't get it why "mature contents" are a bigger deal in video games than in tv's or movies...

It's a pretty big deal in movies as well. The difference between a 17+ and 18+ rating is huge. The laws chances (I think) and lots of stores will flat out refuse to carry your product.

If a game with 16 hours of nothing but sex scenes is accepted on Steam, then I don't see why porn games are not accepted.

This is embarrassing.  This is a developer blatantly admitting their incompetence and laziness when it comes to compelling character creation and story telling.

Yeah but nudity or violence is a bigger deal to the general public compared to movies/tv shows

I was so disappointed when I heard NEKOPARA on steam had all the sex scenes removed. If The Witcher 3 can do it, why can't Neko Works?

At the end of the day its not a game designed for kids, if people worry about it mirroring real life in any way (sex and relationships are part of it don't forget), then they just shouldn't buy it. Simple.

My experience with Mass Effect completely destroys this statement. I cared about my entire crew without the need of being given the option of jumping in bed with them.

It wasn't 16 hours of sex scenes. It took them 16 hours to film everything they needed. You've never worked on a production have you? It can take HOURS of shooting to get even a couple of minutes of usable footage.

 

Them saying 16 hours doesn't mean you can watch video game sex for 16 hours straight in this game, its just that it took 16 hours of studio work to come up with whatever shots/scenes/mo-cap they needed.
