The Water Cooling Gallery

Finally finished the Hard Tubing...  Still bleeding the air out though.  Also an after thought I have only used bay reservoirs up till now so this is my first internal reservoir so the first change I am making is to add a Flow meter.  If I had piped the return flow into the top of the res probably would have seen some water motion but with this setup you can't really tell its running other than the temps.  Oh second after thought when I add the flow meter also add a bleed valve at the top of the loop currently this thing is impossible to drain.

I'm guessing around $500-$600. That's what it'd cost me to do an EK watercooling loop.

$560 for parts + shipping (excluding tools and the 3 fans). Extra expenses are heat gun ($20), extra PSU (optional $40), silicon insert kit ($20), cutting tools ($5-$15) and sandpaper ($3ish) are extra stuff you'll need.

I had a leak due to a 45° EK-AF fitting that pretty much completely failed. It's a miracle I didn't end up with serious damage. I figured I might aswell move the rad from the roof to the front and generally re-do the loop. It's basic as fuck, but I'm working on a non-existent budget. The camera on my Honor 6 really doesn't do it justice either. I'll still need to fix the LED strips and sleeve those ugly ugly wires, but meh. I'm a lazy bastard.

This build was my new idea of what I "needed". I am a PC gamer although I don't spend as much gaming as I'd like. Also there are a lot of days where I work from home, and I wanted something that could run VM's for the applications I use at work. This told me to get more cores, more threads, and more overall power. So I decided to go with Ryzen.

First thing, when I built the system, I used the standard air cooler that came with my GTX 1080 Ti FE, a Corsair H100i for the CPU. If you look at my old builds you know I have said like "I will never build a PC without a custom water cooling loop again". So obviously this setup wasn't going to cut it. I used the system in this configuration for about 2 weeks before I couldn't take it anymore.

Thats when I purchased all the water cooling parts you see on this list and built it up. The only thing is that the first Pump I ordered (an XSPC Photon D4 170) failed. I couldn't wait for the RMA process because I am impatient, so thats when I decided to order the EK-XRES Revo D5. and had to rerun my loop (which I was fine with because it was my first time using hard tubing and I wasn't very happy with it). Also I was originally using a pastel Green coolant but switched it out due to the fact that it wasn't EXACTLY what I wanted...

Fast forward after the new pump was installed. Something happened to my GPU. It wouldn't output to my monitor at all. Another 2 week RMA time period later, I get my replacement GPU and get it installed. Have been running the system for a few days now and I can say that I am still not 100% satisfied with my tubing runs, but I am completely fed up with taking it apart, so It is complete... For now.

Very nice build, have you tested out your drain port under the GPU? In my imagination when you open it, it would drain the GPU block and perhaps some of the 360 mm rad and start to struggle?

Or perhaps I'm not to grips with the effects of siphoning, and if you put the tube low down enough then the whole system will drain?

Thanks! I have tested the drain there as I had to RMA my gpu and a pump. It drains alright, but usually I put an air compressor into the top of my pump res combo to add a little pressure. It seems to work well like that.

Been running hardtube for a while now. So now, I finally tried bending some acrylic tubes.

Of course I failed miserably the first few tries. But I finally ended up with this:

Nice! Im considering using a P3 for a custom loop how was it? Also what pump/res is that?

GPU, PSU, Res mount is very flimsy metal which hangs from a few screws. I ended up mounting the backplate from my GTX 1080 where the res mounts which helped a lot. The res is from primochill with the primochill mounting bracket.

(you will need to find something solid to mount the mounting bracket too like the GTX 1080 backplate since the holes do not line up to the case)

As for watercooling it is fun, and not very hard when doing a loop.

Not much to look at, but here are some in-development pictures of my build. i7-7700k and a Titan XP in the loop, all inside of a Node 202 case. At first the thermal results were a little disappointing. I switched the fans to be between the GPU and the radiator pushing air out the bottom of the case and now it works great. It fits with all of the exterior shell of the case being unmodified. Pretty happy with the results.

It actually looks really clean, solid job!

Just one question: Why did you decide to go with a Titan XP? From what I've heard these are already a bitch to cool in a regular scenario, but in this case the temps must go trough the roof.

Wanted a small computer that I could still use for video editing so I went with a single titan XP. Temps were high when I first built it, so I decided to try to watercool it. Somehow, it worked haha.

FINALLY!!! Finished my first loop!

I'll post my specs since that seems to be the cool thing to do.

Loop:

EKWB FC-GTX1080 NICKEL PLEXI

EKWB EVO SUPREMACY AMD NICKEL PLEXI

BITSPOWER Z-MULTI 150 CLEAR

EKWB COOLSTREAM SE 360

ALPHACOOL VP6655 W/CLEAR TOP(forgot the name)

10x EKWB ACF 10/13MM CHROME

EKWB DURACLEAR 10/13MM

EKWB CRYOFUEL BLOOD RED

XSPC G1/4 PLUG THERMOMETER

Also I have an EKWB drain setup going out of the back of the case at the pump. You can see in the second photo where right after the pump the loop starts at the compression fitting and at the other end is the drain valve/ csq plug that goes out the case.

Huge shoutout to all of you and helping me and engaging conversations with one another. You guys have really assured me that these things are possible!

The lighting and camera quality sucks. I don't know how you guys get your photos to pop so much...
