I7 4790k compatible with z87?

Yes it is but only if the bios is updated to a new enough bios so before buying it you need to successfully update your Bios (Not really hard on the Hero)

 

Edit:

 

To be able to support the 4790k you need at least bios version 1402 (according to their page)

Quick question is the i7 4790k compatible with the Asus Rog maximus hero 6 z87 chipset.

Your board has USB BIOS Flashback so its no big deal. If it doesn't boot then grab the latest BIOS from Asus, rename it according to what it says in the manual, stick it on a fat32 flash drive, insert drive into the labeled USB port on the board the press the flashback button and it will update itself automagically.
