Poor College Kid Build

bry123456

It's taken six long months, but I'm almost there!

Everything is in my secret closet except the monitor and SSD, which should arrive tomorrow. I'll make sure to post pictures and keep updated. Me and my dad should be putting it together tomorrow, so I'll post pictures as we go!

Edit: This is my first build ever, and my dad used to do them all the time so it's become a thing for us. The total ended up running under $1500 USD. Watching for sales, Microcenter CPU/mobo bundles and cutting a few corners helped put it at that price.

Here's the specs!

CPU Cooler: be quiet! Dark Rock 3 113.8 CFM Fluid Dynamic Bearing CPU Cooler

Motherboard: MSI Z97-GAMING 5 ATX LGA1150 Motherboard

Power Supply: EVGA 750W 80+ Gold Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply

Optical Drive: Asus DRW-24B1ST/BLK/B/AS DVD/CD Writer

Operating System: Microsoft Windows 8.1 (32/64-bit)

Monitor: Asus VS239H-P 23.0" Monitor

I see a MSI 970 and an EVGA box. I gotta ask. is that a second 970 in that EVGA box?

As stated, it's the power supply!

You're calling that poor? PPPFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF

I've driven myself poor over six months trying to get top of the line haha. I'm finally there though!

Also, this is my first build. I'm excited to jump into the PC world.

You're calling this a poor college kid's build? I think many people would disagree with you :D

It took a lot of time and money from good ol' retail to get this together haha. Plus, my parents are truly amazing, and help me out with bills. I couldn't do something like this without them.

I got the monitor, SSD and my first true toy for this thing in today! Picture at the bottom. Waiting for my dad to get home, then we'll get started.

It's winding down! I've got all the parts put in. I have no idea how I'm going to get the side panel on though, with all the wires sticking out... I should probably test it before I do that anyway. I'm a little worried about my CPU cooler mounting job too, but I guess we'll see....

Here's the finished build, my friends. Everything works great! Only issue is the monitor has one tiny dead pixel, but I'll worry about replacing that after the holidays. Here's some shots of it on a way too small desk. Happy New Year's!
