I apologize, but I'm reposting this from the Graphics Card category.  I am just really impatient because this is my first build and I want to start gaming!

I just built my first computer and am using the gtx 770 graphics card. Today I installed all the drivers for the motherboard through the disk, and the GPU drivers off of Nvidias website. After I finished and restarted my computer etc, I installed a game to start playing, which worked perfectly for maybe 2 hours or so (I wasn't keeping track of the time) on max settings. Then all of a sudden the screen went black and it said the DVI had no signal. When I turned off my computer and turned it back on, the screen resolution was stuck at 800x600. I uninstalled the GPU drivers and reinstalled them and the game worked again for a bit, but then the same thing happened again. Also, there are these horizontal light blue and sometimes red lines all across the screen now, not sure if thats relevant but it's quite annoying.

I will try and answer any questions to the best of my ability, thanks in advance for any help.

Did you try re installing the whole OS or try the card on a different system/ try a different video output to see if your gpu is defective? I would run Heaven benchmark to see if it crashes/ creating artifacts in the video.

Sounds as either your motherboard or graphics card are broken.

Did you check the temperatures while gaming? It could be your graphicscard overheating...

oh man! You may have a bad card. Sounds like you have graphic artifacts which happen when things go array with your card. This has been a thing that has been going on with nvidia's most recent drivers and you may want to try reverting to the older driver to be safe. But to be honest I would return the card and ask for a replacement due to the card having issues  defects as it were.

http://modcrash.com/nvidia-display-driver-damaging-gpus/

I would use the last WQHL driver which is.

You could also try the beta drivers I'm unsure how things work with the GTX770 since its so new if you are forced into the newest driver.

I had this issue and had to rma my mobo, they denied it(screw newegg they had a bs reason) So I ended up returning cpu to microcenter and being stuck with the money wasted on the motherboard.

You know you can RMA it to the manufacturer?

The deal with newegg you need to be firm and not let them push you around and you'll get it resolved. I had an issue back when msi was overvolting there cards and they wanted me to pay the restocking fee and I got them to take that off and they even paid for the shipment to them.

I WOULD not RMA To the manufacture if you had just purchased the card that is a horrible idea. Will take a ton of time to get it back.

Just wanted to tell him about the possibility ^^ He seemed to have given up already...

Thank you for all the replies, I was hoping I wouldn't have to send anything back, but I guess thats the risk when you buy a recently released product.  Here are the specsc, I just copied and pasted from my newegg order.

GPU: GTX770

MSI Z77A-G45 LGA 1155 Intel Z77 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard with UMOBO: MSI Z77A-G45 LGA 1155 Intel Z77 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard with UEFI BIOS

The graphics card worked fine for a few hours, I was playing Napoleon Total War on mostly ultra settings but like I said before it stopped working, then worked again, and stopped again.

Ok, I have just read a lot about the current driver, such as how some people are having issues with it.  I'm not sure if my problems fall into the same category though.  Maybe before I replace it I could try the driver before the current one.

By the way, is this a rare thing to happen?  I know this card is new and I don't want my next one to have an issue with it as well.

Thank you for all of your replies, hopefully I can get this problem figured out.

Yes, its a very rare thing to happen. I recently heard about this driver issue during the last live stream. I have never had any issues with my drivers with my GTX670 so hearing this really threw me for a spin.

I also fully understand not wanting this to be a recurring issues.

If it were me I would return it. I would say that your graphic card is producing artifacts and that you would like to have a replacement sent to you for your damaged product. A product might I add that wasn't your fault for coming in that way just that it is. And its very likely that it could be the driver but since its a reasonably new card I think that just to be safe I would want to make sure you know? I wouldn't want to run into a situation where too much time had passed and you didn't have a choice but to talk to the manufacture and go through the RMA process with your card.

You know I don't know when there will be a new driver out I myself like I said had just found out this inkling during the livestream I would expect one out soon. Nvidia isn't one those companies that takes a while to release a new driver. Also, it seems like some people experience this issue whereas others may not. I don't know. Nvidia normally is quite good with their drivers but given the situation you are in and how this driver has presented its ugly head to some I would just take the proper precaution.

I honestly hate to ask this, But i've had many Clients that have done the same thing...
Are you sure you have the monitor connected to the graphics card and not the On board Graphics? If the settings in the BIOS allow you to use On Board Graphics even if you have a Graphics Card, You might want to make sure your actually using the graphics card and not the integrated graphics. As i said, I hate to ask, but its a common mistake...

Yeah its connected to the graphics card.  When I was plugging everything in for the first time, because I am so new to computers, I first had it plugged in to the motherboard, but nothing would appear on the screen. Then I realized it was supposed to plug directly into the graphics card.

Again, I'm not sure if this makes a difference, but I was playing Napoleon Total War on very high settings for a couple hours before this happened.  So I wouldn't think it came broken, because it was working for a small amount of time.

It doesn't what you were experiencing has no connection to onboard video what so ever. With the the 3570k you have onboard video on at the same time however you are not using it and its not being drawn from your system it normally disables itself when you are using a dedicated means of video.

I think Frank here is doing the right thing by exhausting a major resource of taking advantage of the return policy on his card before he has to go through the painful process of a manufacture.

Thanks for the update Frank, Just had to be sure you weren't using the Onboard Graphics, Because even though the bios generally disables the use of Onboard when a PCI graphics card is installed there are Motherboards that dont do this automatically.
The next step i would take is to record the temperatures of the Graphics card using a Number of software found on the internet, And Post back with the results.
You should also be sure that there is appropriate cooling in the Case and have a consistent airflow from the intake to the exhaust (Front to end of the case)
And be sure that the fans are running on the graphics card.

If you haven't overclocked the Graphics card then you dont need to worry about that, If you have or you think you might have accidentally using the software that come in the drivers then you should take that in to consideration and lower your clock speeds.

Be sure that the room your gaming in isnt too hot. If you are in a Hot region you may need to take that in to consideration also.

Sorry for all this jumble but there are many things that could be causing this.
If you can post the GPU temps we may have a better Idea of what your problem could be.

I get the feeling if someone were to be a overclocker on the gpu side of things they would know a little more about artifacts so I would think its safe to say he isn't. Not to say that the poster isn't knowledgable.

In the end I hope it gets resolved quickly and painlessly I hate narrowing things down always afraid its something worse.
