Razer Seirēn professional "studio grade" Microphone

Guest

Razer today announced a "studio grade" microphone for $179 or $229 for the bundle.

"The Razer Seirēn is a versatile multi-pattern USB digital microphone with the recording capabilities of a professional-grade studio setup all in a single plug and play device."

It has a nice design, but I don't see the appeal with the Blue Yeti available for around $100.

Ah, no. If I am going to spend that much on a mic, I will make sure it is from a company that is dedicated to good audio like Audio Technica or Sennheiser.

What do they know of England, who only England know?

People will buy it and think it is the greatest thing ever and we will be here knowing better and not be able to do anything about it.

It looks really nice actually, but it's too expensive, I'd rather settle for a blue microphone of some sorts or something similar which is at least as good if not better and still costs over half the price.

The most interesting part of the product page was actually their incentives program—I can see that many streamers (and other productions requiring audio) might switch to toting Razer gear to bring in some extra revenue. Will be interesting to see how that develops further.

Cheers,

Linus

Audio Technica?! Excuse me while I go vomit... Sennheiser, Beyerdynamic, and maybe Turtle Beach are the top audio companies period.

I never said they were top. I said they know how to make audio equipment. I wouldn't take anything like this mic from a gaming company.

Hehe. I was being a bit dramatic, but yeah... What is it with people and wantingUSB audio?! The clipping is horrible, and it gets worse when clipped going from mic to computer, over the wire, and then clipped again coming out of USB headphones...

Rode is the best company when it comes to mics... I love my Rode NT 1. Also Turtle Beach is a joke. Just like Astro is.

I've never heard of them, but I've also never used a standing mic. I've used my H4 recorder since I was 15 and took up voice lessons. I'll take your word for it.

I had to try to find SOMEONE to include up there. Since Bitfenix is an economy brand and Logitech is too, I had to include someone, and it wasn't going to be Astro or Beats.

A Razer condenser mic? OH WAIT. You're SERIOUS! Let me laugh even HARDER!

AKG, Sony, Røde > Audio Technica or Sennheiser in this market segment.

The Sony C-48 being my all time favourite:

While my first instinct is to hate on it because Razer and quality are not to be used in the same sentence, I think I'll wait for a full review before forming an opinion. Mice and audio are the few things that Razer is OK at. It says professional grade, so this might actually be Razer's attempt at a comeback. I will say that the odds are not in their favor, but there is a possibility that this mic will be not terrible. Only time will tell.

I've been listening to the audio quality on it for the past few hours. It doesn't sound bad, but desperately needs EQing.
